Well, I finally learned how to properly boost my Pharaoh with my Black Forest, and I saw that it was good. I might still consider getting the Palisades though.

The guy in Windham builds matamp clones and uses them for the band. Hilbish Design. Nice dude.

Palisades is a tube screamer with all the options. If you know what a tube screamer can do.

Tubescreamers aren't the worst thing ever, they're pretty functional, actually. I guess we just look for different sounds generally around here.
There is a light version of the palisades about to drop called the dunes as well, so keep an eye out for that.

palisades is tubescreamer...but i've never heard a tubescreamer sound as distorted and thick and full as this pedal can, on a clean amp.

I don't know if you can have him build you an amp, but he does still operate a store to buy parts from. He sells small batches of the chassis, knobs, sometimes kits. I'm pretty sure he uses one he built in windham. He is working on a beta lead preamp clone too.

I was just emailing with him because I wanted to find out who made his chassis as I want to get a similar style chassis for a build. I can't find anywhere that sells a large front panel like an orange matamp style. The one I built before is just a plastic panel and it is kinda flimsy. Probably going to have to find someone to make it custom for me.

I also wasn't dissing the tubescreamer. I have been using a boss sd-1 for a bit which is basically a tube screamer but I just bumped it off for a maxon od808 clone I built. I had been running the sd-1 with the level basically all the way, gain barely past minimum and tone to taste. Basically tightening the sound a bit while pushing the amp harder. Same way a lot of metal guys do. Haven't gotten to try it out at practice yet though.

The problem isn't the tube screamer, the problem is the Meh-er contingent.

I use plastic panels and then get an aluminum backer made when I get my chassi fabricated by Ceriatone.

Cool, thanks for the info Nick. I was thinking of picking up a chassis from watts tube and just using their bottom cover as a front panel instead to keep it easy.

It begs the question, when is a modded "clone" no longer a clone? Are all pedals that feature distortion from diodes in an op-amp feedback loop tubescreamers? Are all op-amps driving 'hard clipping' diodes Rats? Does a generic common emitter transistor gain stage mean the pedal is ripped off of a LPB-1 or the first part of a big muff?

I guess this is where builders start saying "inspired by" and what not. I tend to view it more like a family tree with the more mods done, the further you are branching out. The biggest element to answer your questions is the circuit architecture and how all the components are combined rather than a single element defining a circuit. Like take devi ever pedals, a lot of them are the same circuit but with a component flipped or just a few value changes. Are they actually different pedals or really just the same thing? Or fuzz hugger algal bloom. I think it is two old school fuzz circuits combined with some tweaks. Is it a new thing or not? Now compare that to a joyo pedal which is just the ocd but made in china. Or all the jhs or walrus pedals that are clones. Are they actually something new or just something old in a pretty new box?

As for the palisades, from what I can gather it literally is a tube screamer modded to the extreme. I am not sure of exact component values as I haven't seen one in person but it was designed to be a tube screamer so I am assuming that the values are within "normal" tube screamer values. It has some extras like the switchable gain levels, switchable input buffer, switchable input cap, switchable diode clippings, etc. but the architecture is a tube screamer.
