That's exactly it. It all feels like push up contests and date rape.

Sooooooo, not quite doom, but dark enough, what do you guys think of Chelsea Wolf? I'm really digging the little snippet from her new album:

New single is quite good as well! Very relaxing

Rad. Will try to come out.
Joe, I'm not a big Chelsea Wolfe fan. This single/trailer doesn't change that.

Yeah it's not something I'd listen to everyday, but I do really want to see her live. To me that's where I really judge most atmospheric music. Like Russian Circles. They put on a just fucking fantastic live show, but I don't quite like listening to their albums on repeat.

She does nail that emotion quite well.
And yeah if you guys head back to CO again I'll be there. Barring snow

And this is where we go HURR DURR DURR WE'RE DISAGREEING ON THE INTERNET.

This could totally be a regional thing, but there's definitely been a very 'muscle shirt' element to that kind of music for as long as it's been prevalent -- which is spillover from the Boston hardcore and metal scene in general, to be sure.

There's a couple that I go to see when they're in town (Dillinger Escape Plan, Everytime I Die, Converge) because they put on a hell of a good show. Also, most of their crowds seems to be older dudes there to have a good time, not to hurt someone.
But most of the rest of the hardcore/metalcore I wouldn't even step in the building. I value my face and my pride.

that's a lot of the OC crowd. I guess I'm spoiled by knowing of good shit and playing with awesome guys in some short tour stuff.
I'm not saying it all isn't like that. but it's like assuming all doom bands sound like 'Iron Man' from Black Sabbath. or all death metal bands sound like cannibal corpse's 'stripped raped and strangled'
Just isn't correct, not even disagreement on opinion. Just is not correct.
also that hardcore dancing horseshit that seemed to start happening more and more at later shows. I don't get hell we even got a few of those idiot pits during out set... which is obviously devoid of breakdowns or repeating parts in my skramz band... I just jumped down swinging the bass around like a fucking mace to break that shit up.

I completely acknowledge the shitty bro stereotype of like 90% of hardcore/metalcore and it's a huge part of the reason I don't go to shows anymore, that said there's a small element of that group that's making interesting, heavy as fuck, and emotionally hard hitting shit on a regular basis and that deserves tons of support.
