My Breakbeats kit. My jam room is also my living room, so I had to downsize from the giant and fugly, but good-sounding, 70s Pearl kit I'd been using.

I've got the stock snare in the pic, but I can't figure our how to get a good sound out of it without putting money into it. I'm usually playing an Acrolite or a Slingerland Festival. The hats are thin 60s Zildjian As and the crash/ride is an 18" Sabian Monarch. Sometimes I add a K Custom fast crash.

ya gotta go electric if you want quiet. My biggest grievance with electric is my hands get fatigued hitting the rubber pads. And they are by no mans silent, but quietAF compared to acoustic drums

Hey, so it's just a preliminary setup wedged between a bed and a dresser, but this is my kit right now. Inching towards something I feel comfortable playing. Couple new heads, hardware is tight, only thing that's really missing is a bottom ring and resonant head for the floor tom, and a kick res. head. Also a lil arm for an 11" Hybrid Splash is incoming, to fill out that gap between the ride and tom.

Japanese Tama Swingstar from the '80s - 16" floor tom (left side b/c space), 14" snare, 13" tom. The cymbals are Zildjian 15" New Beat/Quick Beat bottom hat, 17" K Custom Fast Crash, 21" K Custom Hybrid ride.

LRLL paradiddle fills all day!

While I'd love to be a good drummer boy who practices paradiddles all day, that's usually not the case. And definitely not with the tom left side, as it turns out. It looks cool and probably works for left-handed/ambidextrous people, but I just couldn't get used to it, so I moved it to the right.

That floor tom now even has a bottom hoop + head (Diplomat) and a dampener, which you can see the corner of poking out under the ride. Also I snagged a sweet NOS ('01) Paiste 2002 15" crash and the 11" K Hybrid splash, absolutely love that one. Oh, and a modern Pearl beater. Apart from wanting a nice 19" crash, I feel like this kit is sounding really good now.

oof! I'd ask to trade one for pedals, but it looks like I'll have to go electric if i want to keep drumming for the foreseeable future...
but electric goes real expensive real quick,
especially if you want real feel...

Can someone recommend what model to looked for used?
I'm especially scared of the Hihat not being as expressive as an accoustic one....

forces me to work on technique/independence rather than just playing
but still
