I get Torche this week.
Weedeater in April. Whatever metal bands play Dark Lord Day in April. Pallbearer/converge/at the gates in April. Oh and Andrew WK.
Melt Banana in May. Loma Prieta in May. Inter Arma/Yatuja in May.
Melvins in June and primitive man/Celeste in June.

I'm so pumped in music right now. This spring is whipping my ass and it's awesome.

Even if you’re not a Sunn O))) fan, you’re probably familiar with the band’s logo, which is quite distinctive. The band didn’t design that logo! And I don’t mean the way most bands didn’t design their label but, rather, hired an artist to create something cool for them — I mean Sunn O))) took their name and logo from the Sunn Musical Equipment Company.
And it’s not as though Sunn O))) have tried to hide this fact… indeed, they’d be pretty dumb if they did try to hide this fact, given that, y’know, they’re using someone else’s logo.

I’ve provided this little typographic history lesson so that you understand how odd this is:
Redbubble, “an online marketplace for print on demand products based on user submitted artwork,” has just sent a cease and desist to a MetalSucks reader, Minneapolis’ Tyler B., who sells art on that site under the handle “The Doom Shine.” The cause of the C&D? Apparently, this design…
Image
…is somehow a copyright violation

I suppose it’s also possible that Sunn O))) had nothing to do with this, and someone is just fucking with The Doom Shine. Although Red Bubble does claim to have confirmed that the complaint did, indeed, come from the band’s Stephen O’ Malley.

First off, this is MetalSucks. They have been known to fabricate stories like nobodies business, especially when it centers around one of "their users". Secondly, SOMA could only send a C&D letter if the designs he had pulled were direct copies of something he did before. The logo is irrelevant due to numerous people using it / possibly holding trademarks, and redbubble would not have agreed to the c&d based on that. So I think its that these were sticker designs either commissioned by Sunn a while ago, or created by someone in the band, but possibly never released. I have a hard time believing this story in its entirety as presented. There is vital information purposefully being left out.

That's true -- but if it's fake, it's hilarious.

If it's a penis, I hope that acid was involved too. Otherwise, someone has a problem penis for sure.

I checked out the Judas Priest version of that song. I felt that I owed it to them because I had a dream the night before last that Rob Halford was tutoring my kids in how to be rock stars. Awful version! Took all the mystery out of it. Mugging for the cameras. The Pantera rehearsal version was pretty good, but neither of them come near the original or the Melvins.

Pretty bummed I'm going to miss Ufomammut and Electric Wizard and probably Yob, but I should be able to catch The Body + Today is The Day in the next couple of months (plus Swervedriver, but you guys probably don't dig Swervedriver, cretins). Falls of Rauros tonight, too. Gonna get my black metal on.

Anyway! I bought Dan's Badascan, and it sounds rad, but what are the controls? I assume one of the toggles is for diodes -- sounds like LED and silcon and No Diodes, to me. Just like the Grey Stache, and the other one sounds like, uh, a gain toggle? The bottom two knobs are clearly volume and gain, but the top two sound like a tone and a mids? Any way, clarification would be helpful there.

Sonically I like it a lot. Definitely sounds better the louder you can play, which seems to be a BAT signature -- it's certainly the case with the Ritual. If I can hunt down a decent way to record I'll do a doom muff bass shootout.

Controls are, I believe, the same as on the LSTR. Or maybe the same as the Pharaoh. I can't ever keep it straight.

Our test presses are on the way. Can't wait to hear them.

Also I'm in need of some new jams. Anything new I should check out?
