Slowly coming to realize that I really miss playing bass (that triple-Ric-o-rama in the "post your rig" thread isn't helping)... I was always a better bass player than guitarist... hmmm...

That would be siiiick.

Not so sick:
Sunn O))) are Peeved That Someone is Aping Their Aped Logo

Even if you’re not a Sunn O))) fan, you’re probably familiar with the band’s logo, which is quite distinctive. The band didn’t design that logo! And I don’t mean the way most bands didn’t design their label but, rather, hired an artist to create something cool for them — I mean Sunn O))) took their name and logo from the Sunn Musical Equipment Company.
And it’s not as though Sunn O))) have tried to hide this fact… indeed, they’d be pretty dumb if they did try to hide this fact, given that, y’know, they’re using someone else’s logo.

I’ve provided this little typographic history lesson so that you understand how odd this is:
Redbubble, “an online marketplace for print on demand products based on user submitted artwork,” has just sent a cease and desist to a MetalSucks reader, Minneapolis’ Tyler B., who sells art on that site under the handle “The Doom Shine.” The cause of the C&D? Apparently, this design…
Image
…is somehow a copyright violation

I suppose it’s also possible that Sunn O))) had nothing to do with this, and someone is just fucking with The Doom Shine. Although Red Bubble does claim to have confirmed that the complaint did, indeed, come from the band’s Stephen O’ Malley.

I do not enjoy KISS, even if you completely divorce the image and theatricality from the music, at all. Cream is fucking fantastic and it's a shame Clapton went off into the direction he eventually did, instead of sticking with what Cream was doing in a great way. They always struck me as kind of the psychedelic flipside to the dark and gloomy version of heavy blues that Sabbath were doing. That's also why I was into Blue Cheer, kind of squarely in the middle, though they have some weird missteps. I dig old blues and I dig that weird perverted heavy 60's fuzzed out blues influenced stuff, but I can't stand the white boy blues thing. Every time I jam with someone and it veers towards "how about we bust out some 12 bar blues, maaaan?" I want to bust out their tapioca filled cranium.

SRV was the support act at my first concert as a little kid. I just remember plugging my ears the whole time, until it was over. My opinion hasn't changed much as an adult.

Blue Cheer is phenomenal. Peter Green Era Fleetwood Mac? Phenomenal. Green Manalishi is one of the most psych-doom riffs ever. Groundhogs? Also phenomenal.

I like the Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac, too.

I love all kinds of blues, too. Fred McDowell, Albert Collins, RL Burnside, Albert King, whoever. But that "tasty licks" mentality was comical 30 years ago and now it's just appalling. I'm fat and old too, but please kill me if I put on a bowling shirt and play "Sweet Home Chicago" while grinning at my sweet guitar tone.

I actually had to justify my opinion on why SRV is bad music to my roommate...

It's ok to steal an established logo and repurpose it, but if you change the word it's infringement???

Dudes. Know what sucks? Getting final mixes of your album and then knowing you have to keep 'em to yourself for months. FFFFFFUUUUUUUU.

But, whatever. We'll have at least a sample of our new album up for everyone in the next couple of weeks. Plus the album art should be done in a week, so we can at least have that out there.
