I think it was the forced focus of being at a venue, vs listening at home with people chatting, shit going on, distractions, you really need to focus and stay with some of their stuff for it to click initially.

So why did I not know how kick ass All Them Witches are? I just caught their set tonight and it was a fucking experience. Their set flowrd flawlessly fron song to song and their writing is crazy cool and intricate.

The bassist had this sweet bastard ric that sounded amazing, ill post a picturr tomorrow.

Here's a new song that we are gonna have on the full length. There is no bass track on it yet. Our bassist is recording his tracks and then emailing them to me. Should have it later today. Left channel is Matt's MusicMan HD150 with a Dunwich HM2 (the kit, not the 6 knob) and the right is Matamp GTO with a Badascan. Solo is still too loud I think but I'll fix it later. Just wanted you guys to hear it because I'm pretty pumped about how its all sounding but I'll probably pull it later on today so it doesn't get out there too much before the album is done.

Gonna check this out here shortly at work. :yay:

Than I'm gonna check out that HM-2 vid.....

They're signed to/put things out through Colour Haze's label, I think. Haven't heard them yet but I hear a lot of good things.

re: Sleep. I think they were a little more exciting when they first got back together (the reworked Inside the Sun from 2010 was absolutely mindblowing, and they're quieter now/since they're playing bigger venues) but they're still my desert island band and they're still phenomenal.

So we may have lost our drummer... I'm bummed, but our other guitarist can play drums, so we may end up as a power trio. Our aimed sound was pretty layered, and now I might be having to fill that space alone. So...

Anyone have any good band suggestions with one guitarist? I wouldn't even mind suggestions with really basic 2 guitar bands. I've got most of the basics, High on Fire/Sleep/etc, UFOMAMMUT, Electric Wizard, Earth, Sabbath, Soundgarden, so on and so forth. I'm having trouble with "post"-XXX bands, as pretty much all of my favorites use 2 guitars or more. Anything more ambient in this category would be massively appreciated.
Good Deal List: bearbeams, pena_55, sonidero, greyscales, ChetMagongalo, xchristophex, Monkey Boy, krautrocker, osbornkt

As more and more tracks come out from the new Torche album, I'm starting to feel like the best part of pre-ordering the vinyl is going to be the artwork and the vinyl itself. Sigh... I dunno, none of the songs I've heard stand out to me. Maybe it'll be like Harmonicraft and I'll have to give it a few listens through the whole album...

Russian Circles, obvs. BloodFarmers + Ogre both do the Power Trio instruments thing well, as do Yob (obvs.) and Church of Misery (also obvs.). the aforementioned Colour Haze and by extension Kyuss (also also Obvs). RC is pobably the most 'ambient' of those bands, and there's a ton of looping going on there, but Colour Haze are quite good as well.

There are other bands that have one guitarist but more than 3 instrument, so I'm hesitant to include them.

Any tips on how to incorporate drone into live music while still playing your other instrument? Outside of a delay in a feedback loop and interludes I'm having a ton of trouble actually working drone and synths into heavier music, especially when it's on the faster side. I'm wondering if my issue is the relative lack of structure of droning and then transitioning that back into a fast/loud environment with distinct parts?

Mr. Black is making some really good stuff. I was stuck on my old Boss PS-1r phaser for years, it just has that one great sound, but recently switched to the Gilamondo. With all the knobs turned low it has a great thick phaser sound but then you can boost it up into a range of swirlier sounds, and the fixed phase is a really cool filtered tone for once in a while. Not quite the exact fixed flange Zappa lead tone but close. Wouldn't mind trying a bunch of their pedals.

I've always been interested in a Gilamondo. There's been a couple that have popped up in the classifieds, but my offers have always gotten shot down. My buddy here in town was selling the Double Chorus and gave me a great deal. Win. And the pedal is badfuckingass. Probably the best modulation pedal I've ever used, and I've been through quite a bit haha.
