I'd imagine finding parts for the VW'd be a little bit easier than finding parts for the Marathon though.

They can be reliable, it's just not a keys & steering wheel type of experience.

And they have a habit of making you regret negligence, mine recently got me to replace the clutch cable, hard brake line through the body to the rear circuit and soon the generator. That shit all more or less failed at once because I'm a bad dad and was ignoring her talking to me...

Marathon would be a classy ride too, though I'd think cabs probably saw some abuse.

Totally agree man. My first car was a 72 super beetle.

Had to work on it all the time, but nothing really major was wrong with it (esp when I switched it back to points). IT was like 2 hours here and 2 hours there kinda thing, which I didn't mind. It was a blast to drive! My dad made me sell it (I was in high school) because the synchros went out and it was dimishing returns at that point in his opinion...but I miss it (there were neglect problems when we first got it...which was weird anyway...some dude won it in a raffle and gave it to us for a small amout of money...). I think my dad just wanted an el camino at home again and it was a lateral cash move (sold the VW for 3k and picked up the el camino for 3.5k...totally worth it really with the pending cost of a transmission). 'Cept I got a freaking ford escort after that and my dad gave the el camino to my sister haha. damn...but it was what I could afford...that escort was the worst car ever...sensor failures like no one's business (and always a new vaccuum leak too, which probably led to the sensor failures...junker).

When we bought our house, the lady seller had already moved into a home and left her 60s beetle in the garage...they offered to put in the price of the house, and we said sure (was really excited about it)...but they wanted like 14k for the damn thing...we said "6k on top of what we are paying" and they got insulted haha. Kept telling us it was worth 20k...hahaha

Anyway, always wanted a square back...but dang if they ain't expensive.
