Clifton - I send my regards, Jason was a well respected and known artist his loss will be missed. As far as the guitar congrats on getting it back for a super strat it's fucking perfect, straight forward no thrills all kills. And I'd never say your an idiot for a trade with that kind of back story.

As far as pickups in the Dearmond what is your desired tonal outcome? I've had four or five different sets of pickups in the three I've owned so I've got some experience. The thing to remember is these guitars have a super bass heavy tone naturally so bass heavy pickups can either sound absolutely massive or extremely muddy. One of mine currently has BKP painkillers in it which are mid heavy and it's very balanced with great string clarity but not very gainy. The other has Duncan Distortion's which are bass heavy and very gainy, they tip toe the line of massive and muddy but sound fucking huge with a nice crunchy high end.

I got my dirt cheap DOD Death Metal pedal in yesterday. Sounds killer for high gain distortion on bass, didn't get a chance to try it on guitar yet. Purchase justified, I'm on a cheap pedal shopping spree lately, using up my spare Paypal balance. I'm debating whether to pick up some more cheap 90's high gain pedals that everyone hates and try to record something cool with them or try out something other than dirt. Maybe an old delay, chorus, flanger or something. I already have an MXR Dyna Comp on the way to pair with the ODB-3 and try for some King Buzzo tones.

He tattooed me and we eventually became really close. He always loved the ESP I got when we ended up getting an endorsement from them. Once that band was over I sold it to the guy who eventually ended up playing bass in my current band. Upon hearing about Jason's passing I called my bassist up and begged him to let me get the guitar back. I ended up trading my Orville LP Custom for it ( I know, you guys are thinking I'm a fucking idiot for that). Still, I'm gonna swap the pickup out for a passive, most likely a Duncan Distortion (but I'm open to suggestions on this), put Jason's business card on it and rock the fuck out of it in his honor. He was into my current band and loved Neurosis, Torche, and all that good shit so I'm gonna make him proud. The guy always pushed me to out do myself and never settle for mediocrity.
Dude...sorry for your loss...thats a tough thing to go through, but looks like you've found a great way to deal with it and to keep your friends memory alive which is the most important thing. The guitar is secondary to the story behind it.

Conky, my condolences. Losing people you love sucks the worst of all things.
Skip, I'll keep you on the waiting list. =) I'm looking for a covered alnico pickup that's reasonably well-balanced tonally, but a little higher in output than the Mules. I've got Black Dogs in my Jazz-7, and SD Pegasus/Sentient in my LP7, and both of those are potential contenders; I've been weighing the merits of Nailbombs and Holydivers as well. A set of the Lace Alumitone humbuckers might also be an option, but I'd want them in chrome, which is probably a custom shop order (though if I'm considering BKPs, I probably won't balk at Lace's prices). Thoughts, as always, are welcomed!

I think that is a good trade. For starters, that's no LTD, that's a killer guitar for sure. The connections it will always have for you are priceless.

It won't be hard to get higher output than the Mules as they are relatively low output. I had one in a Jaguar HH I had for a while. The chrome covered is the hard part. The painkillers I have are chrome covered which is sweet but it seems that BKP is the only company doing that with 7 strings, atleast on a multitude of models. I think the aluma tones are a great idea, even if they are custom, as from what I've heard they are very balanced with good output. Plus they look sick with stained wood.

^^^ DiMarzio's doing covers as options on all of their 7-string pickups now, but they're all ceramic. I've got a TZ7/AN7 set in a guitar right now, and I don't think I'd opt for that again. The PAF7 might work, but I'm afraid it'll be too harsh. Need more data.

new "rental" amp day.
a buddy of mine is going through some hard times so I offered up a deal for his V2 stack that included a buyback option from him. he says he'll buy it back within a few months. we shall see. . . anyways its a V2 with built in distortion. and a HUUUUGE ported 4x12. I dig it. I hope he forgets about it.

Yeah, the ultrasound is quite impressive. Do you mind me asking if your elbow thing is an older injury or relatively recent? Also, has it been chronic or does it just pop up in an acute manner from time to time?

Same here. Could probably cover that. Still want one. I'm starting to acquire different kinds of fuzz circuit now though (I'm becoming one of THOSE dicks), and I don't have a Treble Booster, so this might be a good excuse to get one. That part of the video where they say, "all the way down to C" is concerning me...might wait til I hear how it goes on lower tunings before I commit.
Supernaut could sell ANYTHING.

In my blue s67 that summit hooked me up with I had some ibby / dimarzios that were like 18k out out and sounded awesome just lacking in low end. I had no idea dimarzio was offering chrome covers now but that's awesome that they do. I feel you on the alnico's, for my tone I kinda like the high end ceramics have but then again I want it sounding pretty harsh haha

That guitar is snazzy as fuck. Sorry to hear about your buddy passing away, the guitar sounds like a good way to honor him.

This. And I'm slowly realizing that I need to stop trading/selling my dirt pedals and just build a stockpile of tasty fuzz/dist/od. I have a couple of standards, but really love the idea of a ton of different tones/boxes to rotate in and out.

Several other things I forgot:
1. I figured out why I identify so much with George. It's because I always feel like I'm about 15 seconds away from a full on panic attack and subsequent nervous breakdown.
2. Here is something that has happened enough it's started to piss me off. People find out I wrote a book, then ask me to lend them a copy or if they can just fucking have one. I don't care if they ever buy a copy or read it or anything like that, this is more of a grand experiment and experience than a way to make money, but holy shit you would think they would realize that I'm not exactly pumped about the idea of giving away something I spent a shit load of time and energy creating, especially when that shit is like four bucks on kindle. I know that you dudes get similar shit...I guess this is just me validating my feelings since I don't have creative friends in my real life circles anymore.
3. Speaking of the book - I was thinking about getting participant ribbons made as a promotional thing. I could just put them up for sale, or include them with books, or hand them out to people when they are being entitled pieces of shit. Thoughts?

We recorded a new Mental Waste track today, for a compilation. As an experiment we used the two dirt cheap pedals I just bought for our tones. Fat strat into the DOD Death Metal for guitar, Stingray into the Boss ODB-3 for my bass track. Came out sounding killer, we just played around with the volume and tone knobs on the instruments to dial everything in. Makes me want to compile a list of the cheapest, worst reviewed pedals around and use them all to make killer tracks.
