You have rights here. She cannot just pick up and move that far away. You may have to get lawyers involved, but to me, that is worth it to keep your kid close enough to see.

Was talking to friend lately about suddenly having a deep empathy for people who become mountain men/women. Time to build a paranoid tree fort.

I've felt that way for a long time. My brother actually did it for a while--hitchhiked 500 miles to Michigan's upper peninsula when he was 14 to live as a hermit. Lived off the land, fished, lived in a pup tent. He called to be picked up after about five days. The cool part is that he left a suicide note so I spent those days following an insane series of unintentional clues he'd left behind trying to hunt down his body.
