Today I felt the urge of some heavy distortion but didn't have anything here. Then I realized I have the Bitquest on board.
Distorted Mode --> Notch filter --> Gain maxed out = jammed Wolverine Blues riffs for a good 30 minutes.

Fuck, i could make an entire board just of of Bitquests.

I could probably manage with just BitQuests and Count To 5s*.

One day, when I get bored with all the other things

You can do some settings of the CT5 with the Bitquest too.

Yeah, probably it was just a lucky setting I randomly run into.
I think probably the trick is to find the right match of notch frequency and tone knob.
To be fair I was running into it with a slightly overdriven signal.


Wolverine Blues is legit, I've been on a big "old school" re-listening wave in the last weeks.

Maybe... get to know it in fuzz mode first with the mix all the way up. Then test clean mode and learn how the controls change. Then plug in a Moog EP-3 and go bananas.

I could have sworn I read a very recent post linking to some indication that Dr Ryantist is close to bringing out a new version of this classic? Now I can't find it anywhere - did I awake from a dream about the alternate universe that is the one worth saving?

He's talked about an update. At a guess I'd say it'd be the same pedal but with the midi capabilities from the Atmosphere. I don't think it's even at the drawing board stage. The replacement for the Trem is next on the list, afaik.

Yeah, about a year ago Ryan said a BQ V2 was in the works but that it was still early to talk about hypothetical release dates. All i know is that its layout will be similar to the Atmosphere.. it's the only pedal i'm really looking forward to without even knowing if/when it will be out, but also yeah, new tremolessence comes first.

When first approaching pedals like this, i found it useful to write down some settings, just to keep exploring without fear of forgetting how you got THAT sound.

Description

4 swappable EEPROMs for the BitQuest featuring custom programmed DSP effects.
Includes all 16 effects from the Dr. Scientist Atmosphere reverb on the AT1 and AT2 chips.
The TR1 and TR2 chips are each loaded with 8 tremolo effects originally designed as a
special project for a friend.

A breakdown of all the included effects can be found on the cheat sheets located below.

Includes an IC extractor tool for easier chip swapping. (EEPROMs must be manually removed

Seems like a nice way to check out some Atmosphere/Tremolo action for just $50 and a little finagling
with an IC extractor tool.

Mine was loaded with the classic clean effects on one side and the weirder/second Atmosphere algos on the other, and I haven't had any cause to try and switch them yet. (When I get back around to the lap steel, I could see me doing a full flip for the original fuzz and one of the trem sets.)

I've got the EEPROMs coming my way through Canada Post.

Interested to try out the Atmos Salvos and the TremFuzz in particular.

Various combos of two out of six possible EEPROMs can make for 15 different combos.

Seems to promise new and exciting ways to spice up the algebra and alchemy of the BitQuest!

The EEPROMs came in a pedal box.

Inside the box is a little Ziploc baggie with a plastic container holding the four
EEPROM chips and a chip extractor tool. The four EEPROMs have little stickers on them
that are marked as AT1, AT2, TC, TF referring to sheets above.


For you knowledgeable pedal-making people, the below is of no value.
For everyone else... maybe this can help?

Before doing anything, MAKE SURE YOUR PEDAL IS OFF/UNPLUGGED and then
identify which are the EEPROM chips in your BitQuest. Take a picture.
You also have to note the orientation of the EEPROM chips that are there so the
ones you put in are in the same orientation.

There should be a dot or "notch" on the EEPROM chips and both should be
facing in the same direction.

But note that some BitQuests have the EEPROM chips oriented in different ways!
Some dot/notches are oriented South, North, or maybe East West, depending on
how your particular BitQuest was put together. Mine are both South facing.

In my apparently "older" BitQuest (from 2018) the EEPROM's are stacked one on
top of the other to the right of the Spin chip (See photo below).

The Extractor wasn't as helpful for extracting the chips in my pedal. A small flathead
screwdriver was. I nuzzled it under one end and then lightly rocked back and
forth until the chip started to come out, then used the screwdriver on the other side (vertically)
and nudged chip up a bit and it came out enough for me to pluck it out with my fingers.
After which second chip can be extracted with the extractor tool no problem.

Be careful when inserting EEPROM chips not to bend legs of chip. After you are
sure they are in the socket holes, lightly press the chip down until it's in there.

A printout comes with the four chips and the chip extractor, but the images are b&w.

Here is my BitQuest with the EEPROMs marked for the FUZZ channel and the CLEAN channel
and the Spin chip marked as well.
