Designing stuff is fun so here's an idea for a pedal board design.

Start with wood sides like a Moog synth, I think 100% wood pedalboard will look great but might get heavy so I'm going wood sides only with this idea.

The wood sides should be angled, 2" high at the front and 5" high at the back. Holding the two sides is a U shaped sheet of aluminum or sheet metal forming the front, floor and back of the lower pedal chamber. Hopefully the front is just deep enough so that you can slide a couple of power supplies right to the front of the lower chamber leaving room at the back for a row of regular height pedals. (This is where you hide all your Boss stuff ;) ).

Basic shape:

The wood sides would be routed for power input jack and various 1/4" jacks. I like to stand on stage right so I'd have all my connections, guitar in, power in, amps out, located on the right hand side.

The top would be slotted with slots wide enough to pass a patch cable through at intervals that match the width of a roll of velcro.

If everything worked out you should be able to hold as many pedals as a PedalTrain Pro but in the footprint of a board that will fit into one of these smaller Mono cases:

going to go for a two tiered approach where the top tier can be hinged up with the power supplies and cabling inside the enclosed region

I have a Pedaltrain, and it's clever, I like to be able to hide all my cords. BUT in my opinion pedal boards should be able to sit in a 1" river of beer and survive unscathed and I'm fairly sure that mine would die a thousand deaths.

I like hiding cables as well, but I still hate being restricted to certain sizes, even though there are quite a selection. Sometimes all you need is another inch (TWSS) and there are no boards currently in production that offer it without going the custom route, which can cost hundreds.

I almost wept tears of joy the first time I saw a 711 and the wall o' slurpies

they're everywhere out here. and we had a couple in tennessee when i was growing up. unless i have inserted them into my memory, but i don't think i did. i kind of just thought they were everywhere, but now that you mention it i don't remember ever seeing them when i lived in atlanta or in north carolina.

the first time i ever had a free july 11th slurpie was in columbus ohio in '97 (could have been 96). weird that i remember this. it was hot as fucking balls out and i was a young traveling crusty with no where to really go to get out of the heat. it was miserable. i was just wandering around sweating when i passed some other punk kid on the street who was drinking a slurpie and he looked at me all sweaty and said "you should go to the 711 over there and get one of these. they're free cause today's 7/11". it was like a chorus of angels started singing at that moment. it was the best slurpie of my young life. it was so air conditioned in the store. they were nice and it wasn't like i was stealing it or anything. turned the whole day around.

anyway, i forgot to go get one yesterday. i drank a bunch of beer instead. the slurpie for grown ups.

Slurpie of champs!

Pedal board with ins, outs, room for pedal power, etc would be a must for me. What kind of options other than velcro are there?

Opener ideas for our shows in Cleveland, Little Rock, Memphis and NOLA?

the last original one died yesterday, tommy. to give the post some context. i don't really ever listen to them anymore, but they were incredibly important to young me and to punk in general.

That's a really rad story.

Not that I'm ever happy when someone dies, but it is pretty hilarious to watch the bandwagon-ing that happens online afterward.

It reminds me of that one episode of The Office where Ryan thinks Smokey Robinson died and went on and on about it. Tried to find a clip to post...but failed, bigtime.

Very bummed about this. Truly wouldn't have picked up a guitar if it weren't for them. Learned guitar by playing along to the first record.
