I'm sorry, I can't remember, did you build your own "Klon"?

Either way, looks nice. How's it sound compared to the real thing?

Yes I build tons of Klons... The shinny silver on the bottom row second from left is the Klon.. Klons are no mystery easy to build key is where to use carbon comp, chip selection.. don't know nothing about magic diodes 1n34a I have 1000's of them all military they sound good to me never tried anything else:-) I will say this much and its not a horn toot because its just assembly and swapping out non buffer ic to find nicest one I typically use an OPA2134 or something that sounds better.

My Klon sounds exactly like a klon.. A sI said its not rocket science. You use it as a clean boost and for the buffer. It is incredibly dynamic due to the charge pump and the ton circuit raped around it. If you play a Klon you set the output volume to drive your lead signal into your amp. the tone at noon with drive/gain just on. which means turn it off then back off a hiar and I mean a hair! so as not to get any oscillations on some builds..

The secret to the Klon is not the Klon its the Klon and the Player. If you are an unbelievably tone and dynamic filled player, where on a piece of plywood with a string wrapped around 2 nails, the world still knows it s you the Klon is going to heaven. If you are not its just a boost so don't bother. IMHO

I will postscript that with I am not that kind of player so its a boost BUT I build them so its my boost LOL... This is not bull shit either. I see guys play know immediately who woudl benefit and if they do . I make them one and say plug this in its whats missing on your board. They do and everyone kisses my feet. Conversely I have friends.. one right now, begging me to build one. He is a dear friend so I am doing it. I have warned hm that its a boost and he will here no difference between this in his playing than his super hard on... Some people well.. all of us LOL.... are gear nuts and will try everything

If you want a Klon go by a cheep klone but it has to be a strait klone not someones Idea of it. you dont wan to buy mine as I will charge you an arm and a leg only because My time is worth a lot to me. I have plenty of guys dropping shit off and I build for them. I have a real business aside from this hobby so if I take time It has to be worth it.. Not that I am so much better than anyone else :-) Honest too :-)

If you fit the profile I described you will love it. And your audience will hear it too if not don't bother.. No Some amazing players and some of the most influential guitar players in the world are bangers or soft picking only speed demons they don't want this either.. technical ability doesn't come into play its dynamics. its the way your hands literally make love to a held note or slide...

I'll shut up now :-)

Totally agree, though I've only tried one. I could see how some people would find it beneficial...but it did nothing for me :idk:

You are not alone.. I built one for Dave F. a local slide and lead player here in NY. He didn't ask for it,. I just did it. He put it in the chain and was almost brought to tears... He is one of THOSE players. I didn't tel him what it was I just told him it was a dynamic Boost and that it would be the thing that was missing. He freaks over it. Everyone who hears his solo's goes WTF is that and he points at me and I say its not for everyone LOL. I go see them play and tell them yes or no. They have come to respect it... I end up building other stuff for them ;-) but others I say yes.. its such a waist of $'s if a strait Fet or better a transistor boost works.. But if it works nothing works better..

So I just noticed my posts have gotten me to the status of committed... Well we wont go there ROFL been in a asylum for years HEE HEE :wha?:

Good story but you forgot one very significant detail and that's the amp.
I had a Klon but it didn't sound good on my Marshall 2061X and I didn't like it on my friends Matchless Phoenix either, which for me are two of the best and most dynamic amps I've ever played in my life, it just had too much bass and high mids and made the sound too stiff.
I decided I'd rather play a really great and dynamic amp that suits me than play a Klon and sold it, then again apparently it sounds great on some Fender amps and some people also say it works really well on old Marshall Plexi and old Vox style amps so who knows.

I use a dynamic boost too, but it only goes from silence to heart palpitations.
