After two 70 hour weeks I'm pretty not stoked on salary but that's sort of the nature of the beast.
But w/e.

Ah look man, if it brings security that's a pretty tough thing to pass up.

But yeah, that is the cost.

I really wish people knew how to read a google search result properly.
A good 75% of the calls I get at work are from people who are calling the wrong place.
They're so dumb I got a check for $1000+ with the name of my company (which is different than the name of the company everyone thinks we are) on it a couple of weeks ago.

Is there not a legal / contractual maximum of worked hours in a week / month? It's illegal to work more than 48 hours a week in the entire EU (there's an EU wide regulation for that). France is at 44 in the most libertarian white collar collective/union conventions, and about 40 in most white collar conventions. Most jobs are 35 hours a week and up to 39 for white collar jobs and is the legal maximum work week including overtime. .

There is definitely NOT a maximum number of hours you can work when you are salaried here. In fact, in all salaried positions I have had, if you work only 40 hours per week, you are treated like you aren't pulling your weight. It's awful.

It's absolutely stupid. So many studies show that productivity decreases so much and so fast after 6 hrs worked that if you work 10, you achieve the equivalent of 6 and half without the decrease. And that's without factoring the impact of being overworked on the next day. I think the 7hrs is totally adequate for most jobs and 8 as well, because typically white collars will spend less productive time in tasks like scheduling stuff.

Just kidding, that sounds amazing. Seems like you guys have figured some shit out. Numbers indicate that you guys are as/more productive than other places, too.

OECD says we are the most productive of the OECD countries. It's to a point that in the automotive industry for example, a French worker will do more in his 35 hours week than a German in a 40 hours workweek.

For some reason a lot of people have trouble understanding that I don't need 9 hours a day to do my fucking job. Working in networking is weird because it's either doing clean up/nothing or the whole fucking world is burning down. I wish I could work from home at least but this is an uphill battle as well.
And seeing how much time my coworkers waste blabbing about inane shit, I think it's safe to say everyone could lose multiple hours a day and still be fine.

There's a little more nuance to this. Back in February Congress + the White House raised the maximum amount of money you're allowed to make while still earning overtime from $23,660 to $47,476, so you're now eligible for OT pay if you make up to ~$23/hour (if you're not salaried, $47,476/year if you are) and work more than 40 hours per week.
Of course the natural inclination for most companies, in the face of this, was to bump everyone up over the new overtime threshold with "a raise" (which would have happened in May, since that's when the ruling took effect) that's actually resulting in them paying you less money for your time.

Well it's important to keep in mind that you could be making $0.
(I am/was in a similar boat so I sympathize).

And oppress the workforce without saying so.

I mean work doesn't hold a candle to the litany of problems with my personal life, but it's just another thing to bitch about since I'm an emotionless husk/waste of human life.
