thanks for the tip, gone fission. when all these seppuku pics appeared (uc's post is a veritable 'collection', quite impressive) i hit the datasheets for the chip involved and noticed that the 78L05 gets mentioned, which is why i proposed it in some of the questions i put out there re the pics. had my suspicions but good to have clarification re it's role. am guessing it's a similar type of thing (in reverse) to the ICL7660s ic i've got in my ep3 pre which boosts the 9v up to 18v to get that sweet pe3 pre colouring.
it's nice to see all these seppuku gut shots after being curious for a while, don't you think? very picturesque.

I just wonder why Rhys takes such high prices for his pedals. The pedals like the EcoMod and Memory Loss cost so much that you'd expect to see tons of hardware and complicated circuits inside. But it's just the opposite. Overall standard components and no ultra-rare-and-expensive ICs. Yeah, it's kinda boutique and one-of-its-kind. But if he lowered the prices and increased the production of his pedals he would sell a lot more and get more attention. And he should change the new strange logo and bring back the S E P P U K U logo. What he did in the last two years is absolutely strange from every point of view (marketing, design, support, price).

I haven't heard of the Death By Audio Robot before, but the schematic looks very similar. Seems like the Seppuku DPM-2 can do a lot more. Especially the analog fuzz is a great plus.

He still never got back to me about building me a pll, and the price of the Eco mod is almost 500$ now I hope he's doing well cause I would love to give him some more of my monies...

I've got the robot and a Dpm-2 and they are rather different sounding designs, nothing much in common to me.

For hand-made stuff that you make yourself, it seems like the smarter move is making fewer at higher margin. He still finds buyers with pretty high prices. Would you rather be working all weekend to clear a few hundred dollars or just Saturday morning? Especially if pedal building is a sideline to a job or school or raising your kids, the small quantity boutique thing seems attractive if you can swing it (I.e. the market will bear it). The alternative to sucking solder fumes full time yourself to make up a price cut with quantity is to manage a small manufacturing concern or outsource the work, either way incurring costs that cut into the net profit and needing more volume to clear money. Also, not many people want to and are good at managing other people, and outsourcing work creates its own problems sometimes, an extreme example being Chinese bootlegs of some pedals built in whole or part over there.

As a potential buyer, though, yes--I would like them cheaper.

I think I've stated this before, but if I love the sound of a pedal I couldn't care less if the enclose was filled with twigs and gum and not b00t1k pørtz. I'd still want to get my hands on one. I wish his customer service was better, I wish his pedals were cheaper and I wish he didn't change the aesthetics/logo. But it's not the case. Easy as that really. That doesn't make me want to get a clone of his pedals or stop trying to get my hands on originals.

The pedals I've tried (Kassette and Memory Loss) are weird as shit, and the idea that Rhys should lower his price so that lots of people can buy them is a off-base, IMO. These are fringe pedals which won't be popular (not even as popular as even some other SEPPUKU effects.)

The Kassette rules, and I love it (YMMV) but the Memory Loss was too unpredictable for me, and sometimes it randomly generated scary low freqs. that made me afraid for my speakers.

I think it's unfortunate that people want to clone his pedals already. Also, the comment that the Memory Loss should be cheaper because it only has a few components is (IMO) off base. That's not how things are priced. And you could have bought it for cheaper, but you slept on it when it was less expensive.

He has three pedals listed in his shop currently, including the Memory Loss (OOPS - everything is out of stock).

I guess he could be a better businessman, but if he was a better businessman he probably wouldn't make weird pedals that mainly appeal to fringe weirdos.

I think you're mixing up the two pedals you've tried. KK is the most unpredictable pedal I've ever owned. ML is quite straight forward, the exception being the glitch knob. But it's repeats are far from low-end heavy. Rather chippery and crisp.

Really? I adjust my playing for the Kassette, I don't try to graft it onto "my music". I would guess it's unusable for chords. It's great for weird, spastic solos. Try playing less notes, and putting distinct, regular pauses in your phrasing. The magic happens in-between notes. (I also use it in delay-only mode, no original note).

Noise Ensemble + Kassette with slow, minimal picking = weird magic.

Also, he has changed the Memory Loss formula. The originals were hard to calibrate according to him. (Are you thinking of the MIND WARP? I've gotten those confused before).
