dude. was thinking of you (weird I know) this weekend when I was at a beer fest in IL and eyehategod was playing. Dude was playing one of those Ampeg VH140's or some such old ass solid state. Sounded awesome. Sounded sooooo fucking awesome.

haha well at least you thought of me while seeing an excellent band. yea both Jimmy and Brian use SS150's even when Soilent Green got sponsored by some damn company I think it was marshall... Brian still used SS150's he just stuck the marshalls or whatever on top and had them turned up but behind the amps the Ampegs were there plugged in. I laughed with him about that, he said he took the sponsor so he could get the gear cheap and then flip it, it's how he funded his Parker guitar.

Iommic Pope, yea that's the exact reason why for the longest time all i ever bought were Ampeg SS150's and SS140's. That's why I have 3 of each and then a VH150 and VH140. And it's nothing on those amps when they run them, it's straight guitar to lead channel for that sound.

Do you know how to work on your own guitars and do your own setups?

The answer to that question is the answer to your question. :thumb:

So your 2.9ohm actual reading on the cab, means its actually a 4ohm "rated" cab. They switched all the "ratings" in the 70's I believe.

my 612 is from 1971 i think and labeled 3ohm
and thats kinda what i heard elsewhere
now that i think about it
actually i think you may have told me that
when i first got it

another question for you skip
do you run double 612s in your main rig?
im moving toward replacing the commander 410 combo
with a head and cabs
ultimately wanna get another r300 head
i do like how the 4x10/2x12 sound on the guitar side
but i cant see myself searching out a 410 cab

so i have the emperor 212
also have the earth 2x15(not currently in my setup)
tryin to figure out what size 4 speaker cab to get
saw an old peavey 315 on ebay
or do i just buy another or build a 612
fuckin choices
itd be alot easier if i didnt love the emperor w/ sheffields so much
fuckin curb that and buy a 412 to go with the earth 15s

Yeah then its what would be now a days considered a 4ohm, back then you actually had to have some technical knowledge. They didn't dumb it down, its how most people kept their jobs hahaha

No I run a 6x12 (390w 8ohm) and a 3x15 (300w 8ohm) both off the Naki.

I would suggest getting another head or converting your combo into a head, then either using the earth 2x15 plus the emperor if they are both the same ohm rating to save yourself money. Or picking up that 3x15. I have found the golden ration of 12's to 15's is 2 to 1, it really seems to balance well that way. I also firmly believe if your down tuned at all, you should have 15's in your setup. It just fills out everything soooo nicely.

And trust me... I keep myself broke.....

I figured I was pretty much done except for my eventual full custom Monson 7 string, but I just found out the holy grail of bass cabs might be within reach.... :picard:

and we really need something that can help put out the lows of Drop F....

GAH... I hope he doesn't want an arm and a leg..... :mope:

They're really awesome -- but I hate hate hate their name, which is a drag.

That's a seriously ace lineup.

Resin of Riffs past.

I'm totally speculating here. It could be an Ampeg B15.
