Hi, my name is Rick Walker and I've been a professional drummer/percussionist/producer/band leader for
over 30 years.
At the age of 55 (this year) I fell in love with noise and distortion and mayhem for the first time.
Last night I had my first debut with my solo RHYTHM/NOISE project called
Aether EngineI played a Stratocaster tuned D D D D D (the sixth string broke because I detuned it to much (!), but I made
each D just slightly out of tune from each other D so that it would still excite the overtones once mangled
and yet still read monolithically as a single pitch.
I also played Toy Music Box (a piece which I debuted in a headlining show at the Luggage Store Experimental Music
Series in San Francisco ----here if you are curious ----
http://www.youtube.com/rickwalkerlivelooper),
Toy Megaphones, Solo Acapella Vocals (with faux noise and industrial imitations), noise blasters, a huge
maching bass drum with chains draped over the head to fuck it up and a huge marching snare drum with similar chains
and a kazoo (yeah, I know, how weird is that).
Anyway, I had a good crowd and I really enjoyed myself. I was 2 to 3 times as old as everyone else on the show
(called Noise Mondays) but there was no aegism in the crowd at all and I was really well recieved.
Now I"m eager to overcome my fear of soldering and start learning how to build really quirky, glitchy and noisy
stomp box pedals.
I moderate the Stomp Box Pedals, Audio Plugin Junkies Annonymous and Live Looping tribes at tribe.net so
come on over if you are interested in some lively discussions.
Nice to be here. I got my first Devi Ever 'Eye of God' pedal in the mail yesterday and
I'm in love.
Yeah FUZZ!
