They also make some inexpensive, but decent quality guitars that can't really be found from any boutique builders that I know of

Of course Fender is still relevant, what kind of question is that?

Their guitars are iconic, well-made, and except for MIAs, not as expensive as Gibsons.

Look as anyone that grew up wanting to play music of a rock nature I get the importance and started on one [70s Pbass, still have] But I've played a lot more Ibanezes and Epiphones, Yamahas and various Korean made things made by either Samick or Cort.. on the cheap end that were nice than fenders/squires that were nice.. and in the upper end I've never played more G&L, MM, Lakeland, Modulus, Zon, etcetera that weren't dogs compared to the upper end fenders

Okay, there are better guitars out there for you - that's great! The guitar is a very personal instrument, so in this day and age most guitarists can find the guitars that speak to them the loudest. But just because you've decided Fenders are no longer for you personally doesn't make them irrelevant to other people.
I'm still quite enamored with them. The only Fender I ever met that I didn't like was a Pawn Shop Jaguarillo. Other than that, I've wanted to buy every Fender I've ever played. I only own one, though, and that is my Strat, which is a great instrument.

If I remember correctly, there was a photo of someone declaring themselves a G&L/Music Man person rather than a Fender person in my college psych textbook in the chapter about the narcissism of small differences.

You now owe us 20 more pages [single spaced] to this essay; due this Friday or you wont pass.
Thanks

Just saw the Lead II & III:
Love the hard tail strat and these only cost $599. MIM ... the 25.5” scale is a bit of turn-off since I prefer shorter scales ...

That's kind of gloriously awful looking. What a colour.

That being said, I picked up my Mustang, this one:
And damn those single coils really mesh well with distortion. And the playability is great! And I had this bad boy in storage for maybe a year and it was still in tune! These guitars are steals at $599 so I’m considering another in Firemist Gold:
But the sea foam p90 version also looks sweet but i bond more with the regular single coils ...
If the Lead II & IIIs had scale lengths of “25 and below I’d be game for them

There's a purple Lead III, too. I'm surprised Chank isn't onto it by now.

You seem to be on a roll with new guitars, congratulations on that.

Those look beautiful, I'd rock 'em.
This is what's tempting me at the moment, the capri orange Player Jaguar.
