Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
A good riff will never sound like shit. That's kind of the point. Good gear makes things sound better, but good songs/jams/etc. never sound bad because of gear.

It's like saying 'Give a man a Les Paul guitar and he becomes Eric Clapton,' you know. It's not true. And give a man an amplifier and a synthesizer, and he doesn't become whoever, you know. He doesn't become us."
It's the inverse principle of that.
Yeah, inverse principle. I'm going to sleep. WHORES. tomorrow. AWRITE.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
You don't need the sexiest amp with the best pedigree to sound good, though. Tons of bands sound fucking KILLER with Laney AORs and Peavey VTMs and the like that they bought for a few hundred dollars. If you can spend 20% of the money you would on a Model T and still sound fucking good as hell with minimal risk of it sounding shitty (if you do your research and test things out) you're going to be perfectly happy, unless you actively talk yourself out of every other amp and you want the holy grail. The holy grail is going to be doper than all hell but you gotta be willing to work for it.

Ahh, Roger, so humble.
On the subject of good cheap gear, Goroth has offered me a lead on an amp that is too good to pass up and will hold the gap until the sovtek can be fixed and the dunwich comes in. Maybe (hopefully) even beyond.
He asked me to price it though and I have NO idea (he doesn't either, he tells me) of how to do so.
Laney AOR 50w.
Uknown (?) condition. Probably decent, he says it has been in storage.
Sorry, Gor, I'm doing this out in the open dude cause I wanna be fair, and realistically these are the only guys I'm gonna ask about this.
What's a good, fair price on one of these? Median, not low-ball or blown out.
Ebay is unhelpful right now. Most of what I have read is in the $350-400 range. Is that about right?
I'm assuming it's in working order at this point.

I found the aor 100 for 450
So about 350-400 to be nice about it.

I'm not even sure.
My 6260 has amazing dirt on it, but I really like to use my pedals to broaden my tone.
Either way is probably fine.
What did you have in mind?

In USD? I'd go pretty much in the middle of that, i.e. ~$375 -- how on earth are you going to ship that thing?

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Well, things like the Sovtek MIG 100, Laney AOR 100, some of Peavey's shit (Butcher! VTM!) are all going to have good amp dirt and will take pedals nicely if you see fit.
Also, an Ampeg V4 is loud as dick (keep in mind, dick is loud) and takes pedals like a boss if you're going pedal dirt.
Those are all really good options that are all found for $500 or less, with the exception of a V4 in good shape you'll pay a bit more cuz people are crazy.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
V4 is really expensive nowadays. 800 being the lowest price I've found it around here.
I missed the chance on a Laney last week.
I was thinking about running that model t preamp pedal through a bugera 1960 infinium with 6550's as a cheap interesting take.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Like, right now I'm personally beginning to save up for an amp. My end goal is a 2203 because it's loud as fuck, can operate really well as a pedal platform, and has good intrinsic overdrive. But at the same time, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a MIG 100, AOR 100, or a VTM120 at a really good price since I could be looking at a couple years of saving otherwise. I have a VT-22 that I'm really happy with so I'm in a slightly different situation than you, but being patient for the right deal you're going to wind up with something that's going to make you happy. Very happy.
