I agree with you. It's just not as full and rich sounding as the 'original', which is why I feel more like messing about and jamming on it rather than getting down and getting shit down. I felt it was like an 'escape' amplifier. It captured an era and a sound without having to invest into it. But I'd almost always choose something else for serious stuff. And when I say serious stuff, that just means anything you take seriously.

I'm not a fan of ny of the orange stuff I've tried. Not that it sounds bad, I just am not hearing what the fuss is all about. Not at the price point they are at anyways.

I already posted this in the rig thread by accident, But here's a album promo vid I put together for friends band.

AngryGoldfish wrote:I also am interested in the Ola Englund signature Washburn, but it's a lot of money for an imported guitar (around £1400). I could buy a Suhr Modern Satin Natural for only a couple hundred more, and that's a far superior instrument, and is made in the States.

Ola has a sig guitar now? Crazy how much attention he got from his amp demos.

There was some sooty trace between two of the valve pins, so I'm thinking it might end up needing a new socket, hopefully there's no other issues in there. I don't think anything else fried, or at least I couldn't smell anything. So far I'm feeling fairly sanguine about it. At least until I get the tech bill...

Perfect time for the pedalboard I ordered to turn up...

Sucks about the amp, but that's one snazzy board.

Krosis wrote:I guess Orange wants to expand their offerings and capitalize on their currently popularity. I'm fine with that as long as they don't overextend themselves. Their amps aren't cheap and coming out with more and more top end ones that most people can't afford may or may not be the best business strategy. I don't know.

I would like to see more amps that someone like me could afford and have a use for. How about a Micro Terror version of the Dark Terror? Charge $200 USD. I would be all over that.

Just keep your eye out for a used Dark Terror mang. People try to list them for like 600, but they never sell. On places like TGP they sell for like 400 or a little more, which isn't a bad price for that amp.

AngryGoldfish wrote:No currently produced Orange amp has given me longer than fifteen minutes of GAS. The Rocker 30 was solid as an affordable, low wattage pedal amp, but they've discontinued that. The original single channel AD30 was nice, but that's been gone for a while now and is very hard to find even here in the UK at reasonable prices. The small amps are a lot of fun for a while, but I'd only consider them because they're small and easily found inexpensively.

Check out an OR15. They are stupid good...but only if you like that high gain Orange sound. I would love to have a single channel AD30 in black tolex

D.o.S. wrote:See, I disagree with that. I actually think the original Tiny Terror was great because it nailed the "orange pre" sound that so many people are/were infatuated with while being low-wattage enough that you could drive the shit out of it without blowing out eardrums. You can get a really nice sound out of an OG Tiny Terror and a 4x12.

This makes me want a Tiny Terror. I've actually never played one.

Man, that sucks about your Matamp. Especially when the whole way home I've been pretty pumped about picking up this:

Got to try it before I bought it. It is spotless in appearance but the power tubes are about 2 years old and the volume pot was a little scratchy from not being used in about a year. The guy said it can take el34 or 6550 with a bias adjustment (don't they need some resistor swapped out too though?). What do you guys recommend? I was thinking about a set of 6ca7s since I liked them in my Marshall so much but I saw on one forum or fb group that an el34b would take out alot of the harshness of regular el34. I've never heard of an el34b though. Anyway, gonna crank this sumbitch tomorrow and try to get a decent demo out of it.

I use JJ 6ca7s in my Logos amp and I really like them. They are not harsh at all and I would say try them out if you want to try 6ca7s.

i had this same thing happen on an amp once. tubes blew and there was the sooty trace. i got a round file and between it and some sand paper i filed away the soot so that there was not a conductive trace. got it real cleaned up and got some new tubes and it was good to go. eventually i sold that amp to a friend. he still has it and has not had problems at all. the arc happened about 8 years ago. it's been cool since then. you may not need a new socket if you can clean up the old one.

Sadly I am not well versed in the eastern European languages. I want to visit Prague though, so I should probably learn a little bit about Czech.
