this may sound harsh, but anyone who tries to end a serious relationship through a text message is a spineless piece of shit who doesn't respect you anyway. you can do better and probably deserve better.

I can populate circuitboards cleanly, I just can't solder wire. There's always something wrong with my wire connections. I hope it is just a lack of skill. I swear, if they were just cartridges I could drop into a system or I had a wiring monkey, I would be popping pedals out like crazy. I know it doesn't help that my patience for troubleshooting is low because of anxiety.

And while your at the pharmacy getting the cream get yourself an inflatable ring cushion to sit on. Pushes the butt cheeks apart when you sit down. Much more comfortable.
Edit: do you Americans call them pharmacy's? Chemists?

Forgot how much using hand dies to thread steel is a pain. Not to mention that when I'm done it means I have to crawl under the house in dirt for a few hours.

Thankfully (I guess?) she wasn't ending the relationship at that point. It's something that makes me crazy, but when she's having a shitty day she'll say shit that's wayyyy over the top but not really mean it. I called her out on it, but I don't know how much good it did. It's something that's on the list of things I'm not stoked about in our relationship. We're still together, though I think I'll be seeing her much less often just because she's so busy. I'm going to see how it goes, but if I don't feel like it's worth it after a while, I'll call it quits. We've talked about that too, and we have no reason to be "enemies" so she'll just be another "ex-girlfriend friend" if/when it comes to that.
Relationships are weird. I was thinking about it last night, and the only things that separate good friends from partners/mates/boyfriend+girlfriend/whatever you want to call it are
a:sex
b:some degree of exclusivity, whether it's sexual or emotional
c: whatever cultural norms you've been subject to that make you think a relationship should be a certain way

The reason that you are having trouble soldering wire and not circuit boards could be related to
the heat of your iron and it's ability to maintain constant temperature when soldering to larger
components such as jacks. If the iron is good, it could be that the tip your are using is too small
to transfer enough heat to larger components.
What type of iron and tip are you using?

Flux is king when it comes to soldering wires IMO.

A Weller WLC100 with the stock tip.

the tip I've found is commonly the culprit. When the iron is up to heat and not in use always be sure to tin it with some solder so that the tip isn't exposed to the air for an indefinite amount of time. Also after I unplug the iron I'll tin it once more so that it dries with some solder on it. Not doing any of those things can be the death of a tip. There should be a chrome like sheen on the tip. If it's dull around the edges or you notice a finish difference on any spots on it, it can make it INCREDIBLY aggravating to get a good solder. A lot of the time you'll get cold solders and a headache.

Another thing I've discovered about soldering wires is not to tin the whole stripped wire section. The tiny portion of un tinned wire acts as like strain relief. If you tin it all the way it can easily break at the point where the insulation and stripped wire meet. Especially when it's soldered to the board.

Guh. The pedal I bought from chuckyjaywalk still hasn't shown up and USPS tracking has it last listed as leaving NY on the 7th.
It should really be in the country by now, and I would have thought at my door.
I hope this is just one of those things where USPS tracking is just being suck with the updates.
