They're stupid hot pickups. And very bass and mids heavy. You probably don't want one in the neck position. My friend was clipping the input of his RAT with his bridge pickup and it sounded fat and tubby... but also, broken? The clipping wasn't the desirable kind. Could've also been the circuit.

That doesn't sound too good, but thanks for the info. Youtube demos sound great (of course) but this is the kind of stuff I want to read before I spend the money.

IIRC, my friend said that Rats are picky about higher resistance pickups and input signal and stuff, but I could be wrong. He's using a VFE Alpha Dog, and VFE makes a "Glass" version that is less picky about stuff like that.

"The Alpha Dog Glass uses a higher fidelity NE5534 chip for a smoother drive that works better with higher input signals. The G mode is much smoother at high drive settings, plus the T mode uses a 3x1 setup to bring out the even harmonics."

Either way. you definitely don't want one in the neck, unless you want mud.

Thanks for the cab advice Sam. Interesting about the hiwatt being thin. Definitely not what I'm chasing.
Boxman in the promised land of tonal deliverance!
So, skip and clif are gonna start a George Rice era high on fire covers project?
Can you call it Generation Darkening?

Re Heshers: my mate has a set and loves them. Could be the rat?
Apparently my vibe pedal might be here by week's end. No wonder I thought shipping was expensive....oops, bit also win.

I am down with this but if I were gonna do a HoF cover band, i would wanna play drums. Des has the coolest drumming, especially in the older days before he started playing double bass.

A friend of mine has George's old Matamp 200. I love that bass tone on 10,000 years and Fireface.

Des=best drummer ever.
If you're gonna play drums....I suppose I could play guit through your rig. It'll be a burden, but you know, someone has to do it.

And louder, that's just plain awesome.

Despite the ridiculousness of the drummer being outside, that band sounds pretty good.

Yeah his back injury was a real shame in that regard -- a lot of the tom stuff got transferred to his feet.
