stanimal wrote:wow, this thread has really evolved.... i live Connecticut at the moment and there's this fierce argument between NY and CT as to which has the better pizza.... i've had the best NYC has to offer and I've had the best CT has to offer and they're both amazing in their own ways... but damn if i don't miss my Chicago deep dish or (*gulp* to actually admit this....) California Pizza Kitchen.....

so yeah, i'd take two of the .99 cent cracker pizzas and use them as bread for a pizza sandwich....

mmm...pizza sandwich. I like mine as a wrap.

CT is supposed to have good pizza? The only pizza I know of in CT is from a bar in New Haven that I've never been to. What's your favourite NY 'za? And CPK isn't bad. It's like saying your favourite burger is from In 'N Out. :idk:

This thread will be the death of me. I was supposed to stir fry some veggies for dinner, but pizza sounds so much better....

Haha, this thread has evolved bigtime, hey! It's on a good path now... a path for us all to enjoy and hopefully win some free pizzas.

I don't think we get that frozen Mystic Pizza up here, that's not familiar to me.. we get boring stuff like Kraft, McCain's, Dr. Oetker (weird name for a frozen pizza outfit).. most of our choices are those kinda lame rising crust Delisio style pizzas.

Anybody from one of those places in the States where they make pizzas kinda strangely? I forget the specifics but one place makes the pizzas upside down with the sauce on the top... one place makes huge crust pizzas that you eat with syrup... one place puts yellow mustard on pizzas... I learned this stuff from the Food Network and I'd try any of those pizzas.

Mangia (mon-juh) does that, it's really freakin' good too. I have one a block up the road from me!

Isn't that what Chicago style is?

Pizza with syrup? Sounds like a Vermont thing to me. They put syrup on everything. Even snow.

It's like a cavity on a stick. For those of you who want to make it at home, get some dark amber syrup, boil it, put it on snow.

i put syrup on my blueberry eggos!!! :joy:

but seriously chicago style pizza is a crunchy some what buttery deep dish pan style pizza. the main ones are Lou Malnati's and Gino's East and they offer sausage patties for the pizza. yep, if you like sausage we put one solid piece of sausage on that is the size of the pizza! :joy: well, they put the cheese on the crust, then the toppings on the cheese and the sauce on top. usually the sauce has tomato chunks in it!

now we also have a stuffed pizza that is considered chicago style as well. Giordano’s is the famous stuffed pizza place around here! their crust is a little thicker and fluffy. once again we are in a deep dish pan and we load up the cheese and toppings and moar cheese. then they put a real thin crust over the pie and cover that in sauce!

 why to i read this thread in the morning?

I was just wondering the same thing myself...
You and all your chicago style talk aren't helping. I can't even think of anywhere in NYC that makes them. And believe me, I'm thinking. Hard.

Haha, that's awesome! Some people out there in the world sure are brilliant!

I think Chicago style pizza sounds brilliant too! This thread is the worst for making me dream of pizzas that just aren't available to me. I don't think Canada has anywhere near the pizza diversity that you have in the States, there isn't regions where pizzas are made one way and it's totally different from other regions, I don't think so anyway. A pizza tour of the USA would be such a fun holiday. *day dreams*

Any Alaskans or Hawaiians around? Those States must have some interesting pizza stories too hey?

Rhode Island has this thing that they call "party pizza." It's rectangular strips of cheeseless pizza, usually about 3 inches wide and 5 or 6 inches long, with a fairly thick, kinda spongey crust... and almost always eaten cold. Typically comes in red & white varieties. Sometimes you can get the white kind with spinach, too. It's greasy, but tasty!

Sounds pretty interesting! And kinda weird! No cheese hey? My mom used to always order her delivery pizzas with no cheese... and my dad liked no sauce... couple of weirdos.

I like extra cheese and prefer white pizza.
I don’t like any tomato sauces.

But if you put enough meat and cheese on it I’ll eat it.

No I don’t eat Italian food.

Yeah, we're weird out here in RI. But there's plenty of "normal" pizza too...

Then there's a place down the road from where I work called Twins. I've probably ranted about them before. They've been around forever, and have the most amazing waiting area, covered with photos of the owners (an ancient & diminutive Italian couple) standing next to celebrities (in the shot of them with Larry Bird, they barely come up past his belly button) and making pilgrimages to Rome, etc. Also, one of their grandsons is apparently some kind of accordion champ - they've got newspaper clippings about him and photos of him playing all over the place. And the pizza is pretty unique, too... again, a really spongey / cakey crust, which I normally dislike, but there's something special about theirs... they grease their pans with butter! Also, you can specify your pizza's doneness when you order, so you can get this totally crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside heart attack in a box. Literally, I can't eat more than three slices of their pizza (and they're not particularly big slices) at a time, and I can't eat it more than once a month... maybe twice if I'm feeling particularly healthy.

But now I'm hungry for it anyways...
