I love the modulation on it when I play by myself but when I was using it in a band context it just made me sound out of tune. So I then I turned the modulation off and it just sounded like a regular old delay. I love how it was voiced but I couldn't justify a pedal like that on my board if I'm not using it for its special/unique functions.
I'm also slowly realizing that when playing live I only really use delay for washy stuff and use it after reverb to extend the decay of the reverb trails...
I have the exact same issue, compounded with being a bass player. I love delay but can't justify spending anywhere near what I want to on it.

It's great to have pedals like the Maude for me in the studio, but for how rarely I am able to record anymore I just can't justify keeping that sort of pedal when it could be rolled into Paying something else off

That definitely makes sense. I still really want to try a DMM or a Maude though. I love my accountant running into delay so it'd be cool to have that in one box

it's literally so i can use different sets of strings
because i fell in love with bass strings. Never felt differences as much on guitar - bass is a completely different beast to me
One day you'll realize that all roads lead to Roto.

If they made a bass vi set I'd never buy anything else

Also I play bass and I have like 5 delays, soon to be four once i ship out the '76.

If they made a bass vi set I'd finally build one just so I could use Roto strings. Their funkmaster strings are absolutely outstanding on my bass and my chords sound a lot better.

I should clarify I have 4 delays and two reverbs on my board. It's just hard finding ones that work. More than half of those pedals are just set for noise at this point.

Ive found that I prefer bright analogish delays with bass because it seems to "sit" in with the dry signal easier.
Off the top of my head, the el Cap (my current delay), montavillian echo, and malekko 616 have suited me well for these purposes. The Deluxe Memory Boy has a low cut feature that might work in this way, too.

Also the fact that delays are kind of like distortion pedals in that what sounds good by yourself probably sounds like shit in a band mix.

Well, that qualifies as working perfectly properly around these here parts!
Also, D.O.S. is spot on. I always want to use delay live more than I actually end up using it. Le sigh.

FWIW, I found the 1776 unit in Binson mode actually worked really well for me on bass, even in a band mix.

Yeah I used the Binson mode pretty much exclusively (because I'm a Pink Floyd whore) with bass and it sounds great. The Small Echo Array also sounds fucking marvelous in both of those situations. I really need to grab another one.

While we're on the subject of delays, I've been on the fence about whether or not I really need my El Cap for a few months now. I don't use the sound on sound mode much anymore. Really, I use 2 settings. Multi head mode (sparingly) and a slapback with reverb pre-dirt (more often).
But if I sell it and buy a separate reverb and simple delay for slapback, it will probably end up using all the cash I get from el cap. So I might as well just keep it.
And to think, there was a time in my life when i was content to play clean.

Well, if you would only buy a separate verb and slapback to do the same effect, then you might as well save yourself the power outlet and keep the el cap.
I'm super on the fence about a bitquest on my end. It has a lot of cool stuff, but the one I'm most interested in is the bitcrusher, and I really don't like the fact that it has preset settings on it.
Is the Rustybox known to eat fuzzes? I can't get my 141g to do anything more than punch my speakers in the face, and not in a good way.
