Another thing to consider to get rid of the mud is to use a volume pot with a higher value. I really like 1M pots with humbuckers to open them up.

I agree with the phat cat suggestion. That should definitely do what you want.

Additionally, Lace pickups might be worth looking at. The frequency range is pretty broad, and I think it's tough to beat an alumitone as far as versatility

Hm. Are those plug-and-play with my V? There's a bunch of custom sets on eBay, e.g. https://www.ebay.com/itm/LACE-SENSOR-GO ... 4111803860

DiMarzio got back to me & suggested I get the «Air Classic neck and bridge models», or two necks. They also suggested that «EJ Custom neck & bridge models», which are «the least muddy and highest-definition humbuckers» they make, but «they might be too bright» for me.

I also talked to Seymour Duncan, who recommended either the Saturday Night Specials, or the Seth Lover, which are warmer than the former.

I would go with the air nortons because you can get them in dimarzios horrendous color-schemes. I think a mismatched set of pink and green or something like that would look awesome in a korina. I think all humbuckers are the same size so you shouldnt have to worry about stuff not being in-dropable

I know, right?!! That's pretty much exactly the combo I wanted! A bit too expensive tho. Pure black & pure cream are much cheaper lol. Still need to check out those alumitones more closely though.

some companies make the same model humbuckers for normal gibson bridge spacing AND wider fender/floyd/whatever bridges. should be pretty obvious which is which tho

Isn't that just about spacing? I have never heard or trembuckers being bigger than a regular humbucker

I listened to some videos on YouTube, but it sounded really bright to my tastes. But they weren't exactly playing Slowdive or Sigur Rós, so who knows. No one here sells alumitones, and I can't really find any good audio recordings of alumitones that sounds persuasive, so it's hard to get excited about them.

I got some DiMarzio Air Classics, finally. Tested them for the first time today. First impression is really positive. I was blown away with how clear they sounded. But I do need to EQ them a bit to get my preferred amount of mids and treble, and just play around with them some more in general, to know if I'm perfectly satisfied yet. Either way they're a massive improvement over the stock ones! I think they might be even lower output too—at least it sounds like it. Just a real great purchase so far.

you can clear up a lot of the perceived "muddiness" of humbuckers with judicious EQing, either with a outboard pedal or with the amp's volume controls. changing the pickup height also helps, as does (paradoxically) using lighter strings.

I don't think judicious EQ-ing could've saved the stock pickups, though I'd be interested in being convinced otherwise. I did try, however. These DiMarzios are just of a different world entirely.

If I didn't use so much reverb, I might actually have had to learn how to play the guitar now!
