Re: NEW Reverbs from the Dr.!!!
Hi guys,
Little update here, made the third revision of the miniberator this weekend. I was really hoping this would be the final version before ordering their manufacturing but it has a couple problems that require a fourth and hopefully final version... including a problem that prevents the reverb section from working. *smacks forehead*
I think we'll ultimately end up doing 4 contests for proto miniberators. I plan on ordering the fourth revision boards tonight and ideally I'll get to make the 4th and final protoberator next weekend. Then we prepare a package of the parts list and pcb layout and shop them around to some Canadian manufacturers... then we'll have a real idea of when these will finally be ready.

I want to win one! I would still buy the big new RRR too.

Re: NEW Reverbs from the Dr.!!!
and hopefully a new decay control other than the toggle switch
Ohhhh....and there I was thinking that reverb pedals, in general, can't be any better than my RRR.
Will this change reflect on RO preset, too? Like, variable speed ?

P.S.

Re: NEW Reverbs from the Dr.!!!
We already know it's going to be tough doing the contests for the prototypes.. we'll just want to give everybody on ILF a miniberator!
*our lawyer, Harvey Birdman, swoops in to say that we will not be giving every single member of ILF a miniberator even though we'd like to*
The decay control upgrade is a toughie and something I've been exploring for a long time, rounding up parts and ideas to try. The thing is, the toggle switch has to be replaced by a variable high speed oscillator running from 6 to 12 MHz and that's a bit of a challenge to integrate into the circuit. But I really want to. So I've got a whole bunch of options rounded up and in a few months I'll have a couple weeks of Oscillator Wars and see who wins. And yes, if it goes according to plan, the rotary patch would have variable speed as a result. (Any high speed oscillator designers reading this, shoot me an email, we'll chat!)
Bass and treble will be active like on The Cleanness pedal, offering ~15dB of boost and cut, and affecting the reverb signal only.
Dr. to Dr. discount hey? I like that idea! Reminds me of that scene in Spies Like Us when the tent-full of doctors gets introduced.. Dr., Dr., Dr., Dr., Dr., Dr., etc.
I'm pretty sure when the miniberators are in full swing we'll be happy to offer ILF members a bit of a deal.

on the chip thing, you might give Tape/Cloudscapes a msg: http://soniccrayon.blogspot.com/
besides incredible enclosures, he seems to know his way around programming some chips and might have some ideas.

Jason, I didn't mean to miss your post about contacting Etienne, sorry!
That's a really good idea and I think a programming approach could be the best way to do it. I had been planning on doing an analog oscillator either with a high speed opamp or gate, maybe a dedicated oscillator that I can hack some variability into. Programming a PIC for a fast sine wave would probably be the best route, as long as I'd be able to find a place that would burn chips for me. Good thinking though, sir!

Re: NEW Reverbs from the Dr.!!!
Well, I think we made it to the final prototype stage with the miniberators! This fourth one is just right, even Goldilocks would be happy with it. This one is in translucent red, again from Pedals Parts Plus. I think we'll probably do the first run in the red sparkle with some kind of graphic. I'm hoping for a laser grid for the first run, I think it'd be kind of historic, but I don't think that's Tanya's favourite idea.
So now we have to shop this layout around to pcb manufacturers. Our goal is to use a local company in Edmonton but we plan on having the boards made in Canada at least, possibly by the same folks that make pcbs for Empress. This stage of the process has the most unknowns I think, it's really new to us, and will basically be the deciding factor in how long it takes us to get these miniberators out. Pedals Parts Plus has pretty predictable lead times I think and from then it'll just be a matter of assembling them, which could still pose a problem I bet but we're already looking for the right person(s) to help us with that.
Updates as soon as possible!

Do you like listening to homemade music? Me too. Why don't you try one of mine?
Current ILF Love: OHNOHO CHK CHK BOOM, Mellowtone Melx Fuzz 2, EQD Dream Crusher, Devi Ever ID, Dr. Scientist Proto-Miniberator - new vids eventually
some mysteries are best unsolved
