Cool, tell me more about this anchovy and caper sauce (unless it's an ancient secret)
It was just anchovies and capers smooshed up with thyme and some parmesan, cooked on the hob in olive oil for a little bit. It was supposed to have cream in but I forgot to buy that! Ended up really tasty like I just said, but then I love capers and anchovies and that's what it tasted like.

Tonight I made pasta with a roast tomato, red pepper, mushroom and mozarella sauce, holy crap that was tasty. Highly recommend.

I didn't read those words crammed together at first.
Google delivered. :P

I made this recipe today....

required --
15 oz of chickpeas. we usually have our own on hand but can works fine. drain that shit.
red pepper flakes, up to you but i use a lot
can of diced tomatoes, really great if you have something that's like a marinated diced tomato but any ol' will do.
some nice bread, something homemade or rustic -- cannot be soft processed stuff. i really enjoy sour dough with this. toasting is best if you can do it in the toaster oven with oil spritzed bread and some italian seasoning.
olive oil
salt

Heat a skillet over high, then coat with olive oil. Add garlic and cook until fragrant. Add chickpeas and red-pepper flakes; cook until chickpeas begin to brown and pop, about 3 minutes. Stir in diced tomatoes and their liquid, simmer 1 minute; season with salt. Brush bread slices with oil and season. Spoon chickpea mixture on bread and drizzle with oil. You can top this off with tuna or sardines for an extra hit of protein.

I made the simplest thing yesterday:

1) steam cook a broccoli
2) crush some peanuts, add pecorino (parmiggiano will work as well)
3) sprinkle the peanut/pecorino stuff over the hot broccoli

Enjoy!

Does any of you guys ever think about chinese medicine and the warm/cold; dry/wet properties attributed to food in that tradition? I don't know much about it at all, but it seems like a valid metaphor for describing the effects certain foods have on your body in contrast to our way of describing the effect the food has on the tastebuds.
Anyway, because having a cold for the last weekend plus monday and a little bit before that too I've been drinking lot's of ginger tea. And I felt it sucked the warmth out of my marrow. So the broccoli & peanut stuff was also intended to counter that. Do you ever get that sort of stuff, just an eagerness to eat a certain food because apparently your body needs it badly?

I don't eat red meat often, but occassionally I'll get this intense craving for a hunk of steak or some seasoned lamb. I figure I'm lacking in iron or whatever's in that stuff.

That chickpea bruschetta thing sounds great, odontophobia, I gotta give that a try.

I usually notice lack of iron by a huge craving for artichokes.
