I find JM, or most fender single coils, sound rather scooped. My JM neck pick up sound huge and deep in clean channel, especially in bedroom volume, but once I push it to gig volume, when the natural amp break up starts to kick in, the overall sound become too bassy and shrill at the same time, because it's not the healthy mid frequency overdriving the amp. I can of course get over with it by strictly using the bridge pickup (lots of high/mid), but the JM's pickup configuration is too good to give up.

That's when cleanness comes in handy. Boosting mid can make the overall break up sounds more puchy and normal, and make neck/ middle pick up switch position usable in high volume, with almost every amp I've tried so far. it's like turning single coil to have some humbucker response without losing guitar's original characters.

cleaness can also act as a great buffer between wah and fuzzface (like that foxrox buffer thing), and it won't fuck up the fuzz after it. boss/danelectro eqs on the other hand fuck up fuzzes all the time.

cutting some low and further boosting mid and a little high, crancking gain and lowering the master volume to get a little bit compression going on, it's in treble booster territory, without any noise.

and every Cleaness looks fucking awesome on pedalboard.
