Follow-up: The Sovtek 12ax7lps is intriguing. Does it sound good as a V1 too? (Can't tell from the manual if V2 is a preamp tube only, or a phase inverter. It just lists: "Preamp Tubes: 2 x 12AX7 / ECC83 / 7025" I'm debating just getting two low noise Sovtek 12AX7LPS and trying them out. I'll still have at least one original preamp tube to play with. Having an amp with a microphonic tube is grating on me, and I know it'll go soon.)

currently the modern production tung-sol 12ax7 is probably regarded as one of the best sounding tonal use preamp tubes. i suggest the sovtek 12ax7lps for its long plate structure which makes it very stable as a phase inverter. sovtek arent really known for the tone of their tubes, just their bullet proofness. like jj, not the best sounding, but when you get a good set it's gonna last you quire a while.

yes i know current production tung-sol tubes are in the sovtek family, all being manufactured by reflektor (ehx's russian front?)

That one looks so awesome! I'm thinking pretty hard about picking up a 100w Mother but I can't decide between that or a Street Sweeper. I'm eager to hear what you think when you get yours in.

I'm curioua what you think as well! I was first planning on a street sweeper, but when I actually got on the list it was for a mother. The sound clips on the site kind of confirmed it for me that it's what I'm going for. Can't wait to hear your review!

Yeah, aside from the obvious (spring reverb or not, single channel or not) it was a tough choice between Street Sweeper and Mother.

I thought I'd wanted more of a "Hiwatt" amp sound but I think the clean pedal platform and spring reverb is going to be my jam.

From what Alex has told me and the clips confirm, the Street Sweeper has just enough gain on tap in Voices 3 & 4 to cover some of the crunch I might use out of an amp (more classic rock & country than metal territory -- I'll stick with pedals for the latter.)

I like the way that hiwatt and similar stuff clips, so Im never gonna play it super distorted but I'm the kind guy who uses volume knob to control the gain since it's better than using a boost in many cases, I'm not a doom or metal head as most people that seem to want hiwatts and matamps seem to be now. Can't wait to get my Mother, I wonder how far along it is considering you guys are getting yours and I got my order around the same time.

He has the best customer service I have ever heard of. I dont know any builders who reply within a few hours consistantly of getting a hold of him!
