After more and more folks talking about the Elements in the HCFX Doom Room, I finally got off my butt and checked out demo vids. Damn. I haven't had GAS for dirt since I got my Musket, but this changed that. Must acquire one soon. This into my V4 -> Emperor 6x12 might be what I've been jonesin' for.

Yeah...it can get heavy as fuck without sounding like a pedal. Easily the best 'distortion' pedal I have ever played. Ever. Seriously.

Hey all. Just found the party. Glad I did. I've been stuck exclusively at TGP for too long now. Anyway, Ryan, I am a HUGE Elements fan. Well done, sir. Please don't discontinue it.
Does anyone have a tight shreddy metal setting? I'm looking for high gain but with as much low end definition as possible. Anyone found one? And, then, on the flip side, anyone found a way to make it into a kind of trumpety, broken fuzz? I mean besides actually breaking it.
I figure it's already replaced three pedals on my board. Why not try to knock off two more.

Thewordking, welcome to your new favourite place on the internet!
Grab yourself a pizza, and get ready to waste way too much time.
This should get you into the right ballpark, and I'd expect juicing the bass and treble will get you to the shredder zone.

Ha. Thanks! It's good to be here. Always great to find a new procrastination spot. Thanks, too, for the setting. I'll try that out tonight. This weekend I stumbled across one that I'm really loving. It's pretty close to that I think...
Dist: 3:30
Mix: 5:00
Gain: Up
Clip: Up
Buss cut: Mid
Mid freq: Down
Bass: 1:00
Mids: 12:00
Treble: 11:30
This pedal is really, really amazing. The only problem I've found is that I keep tweaking the pedal to find new sounds and not actually playing as much. Ah, well, good problem to have I guess...

Welcome to ILF, wordking, and thank you very much for picking up an Elements and then enjoying it so much! I promise to keep making the Elements for at least the next two hundred years, hopefully way longer though.
It looks like you found the tight metally setting.. that's what I was going to suggest too. For keeping things tight it's most important to use the bass cut toggle and cut some bass going into the circuit. Then you bring back the ooomph with the bass knob. I'd also suggest not running the gain too high as it will get fizzy/fuzzy and loose some tightness. I'd also suggest boosting the mids up, that gives things a nice tight edge.
To get a broken fuzz kind of tone here's what I do:
High gain mode
Gain knob 75ish%
Clip toggle: middle or down
Bass toggle: up
Mids toggle: up *important*
Bass knob: 65ish%
Mids knob: 0% *important*
Treble knob: wherever appropriate
That makes for a ripping/raw/broken kind of fuzz tone, for me at least. I'm not sure about a trumpet kinda tone.. I think I know what you mean by that but it's one of those descriptors that I'm not always positive about. If you mean a really smooth tone I suggest leaving the bass toggle down and scooping out lots of mids in the middle or lower position. It's a big bassy kind of tone but it's really smooth... I'm not sure if that's trumpety or not though... trumpets make me think of midrange so I'm probably way off base there.
Thanks again!

Again, very cool. And thanks! I'll try that one out tonight as well. And 200 years oughta be fine. I'm sure I'll be deaf in 120 or so, so yeah, we should be good.
Rock.

Awesome, glad you like it! That's in my top two of favourite settings with my other top fave being the Slayer setting with the mids boosted way up, I love that juicy midrangey tone, so palm mutey.
Little aside here, I just wanted to thank all of you guys who have helped the Elements be such a big hit on HCFX in the Doom Room... that's flippin super cool to me, I love that. There's no thread anywhere that I'd be happier to fit into so well and the Doom Room dudes are an awesome bunch of dudes so thank you very much.

Received my Elements this morning, that's my fourth Dr Sci

LOVING it. Actually just went "fuck it", plugged it in with however the knobs were randomly turned to when the pedal came out the box; had this
delicious medium-gain tone that loved the humbuckers in my Godin (also Canadian, I believe?). Messed with the knobs and switches for half an hour dialing in all sorts of great sounds, so much fun.
Looks like I have nine pages worth of settings to try out! .. Plus the settings from the bass thread for my four-stringed axe.
Mix knobs have now been permanently added to my list of favourite pedal features; Soft-touch switching, top-mounted jacks.
