think I found a similar one I can get on dhgate, I'm stupid.
My opinion on any post jcm800 marsha is save and get something that is better. You can get good sounds, just not as easy.

Thanks. What do you mean by not as easy? Like it'll take more time to dial in the settings or something? Or like they only respond well to certain situations (tubes/speakers/pickups/etc) which would be a chore to create? Are they unusually difficult to maintain?
If it's the latter, do you have any further insight? I'm really hoping to get some firsthand knowledge. Of course I'm aware of the "800 is better" or "they suck...transistor gain" opinions. Looking for the next level of info.
Thanks again!

I think a lot of 900 hatred comes from the fact that they're decidedly not 800's. They don't act the same, sound the same, etc. And if you think the 800 naturally sounds like God's jism dripping into your earhole, you're not going to be nearly as stoked on the 900.

somewhat this. It's more possible to dial in a harsher sound that is unpleasant whereas some of the more revered amps it all sounds good, just a matter of taste and appropriate gain levels. Maintenance shouldn't be any worse than any other circuit board style modern amp.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I'm so excited. I just ordered a dunwich hm2 (it'll always be the true and original "left hand path" to me). I haven't bought a single piece of gear in two years since I bought myself a dmm for another birthday. Finally crawling out of the hole financially just a bit which feels great on its own, but the fact that I finally had money to buy gear right when nick releases this pedal I've been excited about for years is just awesome. So stoked to get some dunwich in my life finally. Hopefully there's much more to come. Now it's just the waiting game til it gets here. Gonna be a long week or two.

I'm aware of their lackluster reputation, but like any unflattering gear, the Internet can tend to snowball individual opinions into (false) consensus. The only time I've really heard one up close and in person was at a Floor show from way back then and then not long after during Torche's first tour. I thought they actually sounded pretty good in that context.
I'm asking because they're often for sale quite cheap. It should be noted that I'm interested in using it to be more of a pedal platform than anything else, so even if they have a buzzy or harsh distortion or whatever, I would not be taking it into that territory. Thanks, fellas.
Played one as part of a rented backline at a festival in November last year. I was trying to use it as a pedal platform as well.
Fizzy, overly compressed piece of shit amp. Avoid.

Depends which version i think...i had a jcm900 high gain master volume, which doesnt have reverb or dual channel...i believe its the first one after jcm800 and before the SLX...i used it as a pedal platform...and it was great. I had to dial the treble and presence back a lot and had bass and mids on full...so not much eq flexibility for me, but it was fine on that setting.
I think the later dual reverb ones get all the bad press and maybe they are shit, ive never played one, but the one i had was pretty fuckin cool.
So...i have a techy question...after last weeks rehearsal i started noticing a random crackling sound in my rig...i thought it was something to do with a new pedal or cables...i tested everything with took ages as the sound would only come up randomly...then i plugged into my combo, and havent heard the sound since...so im thinking i may have damaged a speaker in my cab. How do i check it...? And if it is from a speaker, can i fix it or do i need a new speaker?

Vox never struck me as a doom amp, but if this one can doom I'd love to pick it up due to that blacked out look:

Agreed 100%. Old guitarist in my skramz band has one, so I've used it and tried dialing anything in worth a fuck.
There is a reason why they are so cheap.
Oh and he still has it, tried using it for pedals. Got an Orange AD140 instead for that.

I think the only thing I'd say about the 900 is that they seem to be where the Sovteks and RedBears were 10-ish years ago, reputationwise. Then again, I play bass when I hit stringed things so I don't really have a dog in this fight.
