Phanta do you celebrate Walpurgisnacht? It's celebrated all over Sweden but where I'm from its turned into an enormous three day binge.

Brandsmannen: I will just be at home looking after the little dudes in my home, so if you come up pm me and we'll meet up.

We don't call it that any more. These days it's "Tanz in den Mai" (dance into the may?) that is pretty much a drink/dance/fuck fest all over the country. There is a last remnant of tradition where men cut down birch trees and stand them up in front of their sweetheart's houses. There is a contest about whose tree's biggest etc. Also the girl is theoretically obliged to go out with the dude over a certain time span (can't remember how long) and if they don't hook up, the father of the girl has to pay a crate of beer for the tree dude. I the southern parts of germany the tradition of May Tree is a little different. There every village has a communal tree. The obvious who's got the longest etc contests ensue and it's part of the tradition to try and steal the other villages trees. Kinda like capture the flag in real life, without halo armour but lots more beer. Lots.

On May 1st proper we demonstrate and burn cars like it's appropriate in the home country of Marx.

And we protest in a calm and orderly fashion with the appropriate permits. As befitting the home of ikea. We raise hell with our state-issued Allen key and mini spanner.

Goddamn right. At least you live in New England. Try the deep South on for size. If you're not going to the Baptist Church's Friday night potluck/revival there's nothing else to do.

Don't some people still "cull the sparrow" or "hide the bride" in some places in the South? People do crazy stuff for the old hippie festival circuit (wine enemas and van living). I guess I do live in LA, but I remember crazy field parties and destruction all the time where I came from. Corporate America has Burning Man too. Plus, you could go see John Waters to celebrate Christmas...only in America.

All those European parties/traditions do sound fun though.

Small board didn't last long. Top is guitar, bottom is bass.
