Fuzzes if I like them on guitar or regular bass I like them on the VI. Fender Blender is amazing, amazingly stupid on the VI. Not a fan of suboctave stuff on it, but I'm not a huge fan of octave down as it stands.

Flat out dirtboxes is where I differ between the three, and there I want a more modern gain on the VI that has a bit more punch - the Boss Adaptive Distortion works wonders, as does the Basic Audio Lucky Number.

BoatRich: Oh, I have a TGD (or, secret destroyer, but pretty much the same thing). It needs some love and care to come back to life, but I imagine it would sound pretty good with a VI. :joy:
It really does. Secret Destroyer is my favourite fuzz for bass VI. Also for a lot of other things. Just so damned nasty.
Mines having some weird issues too, sometimes I switch it on and it's super quiet. If I tap on it a few times it goes back to full volume.
That seals it then, between drone mangling and heavy VI fuzz I definitely need one.

Neon: how close are the Fuck and the mini? Because I just picked up a Fuck to go at the end of my board and I'm thinking a Mini may need to replace my OCD
There is a little overlap in tones, but they are definitely much different animals. I think the Fuck excels at light, always on OD with the crackle for bursts of nastiness. The mini is great for chunky OD, sputtery fuzz, and abrasive lo fi tones. The bias knob is a different animal than the crackle on the fuck, and there's just a hair more bass on the Mini, along with a little better tone shaping.

Both is the answer! But I prefer Mini over Fuck for my purposes. I want another Mini.
+1 I was just typing up this exact same response. Except I find the Fuck more useful for my purposes
Okay, that clears it up, I need both.

That settles it. I love the Algal Bloom on VI, you like it too...so... I need a TAFM! :joy:

As if I didn't already know that.

Grabbed the Dirge Karaoke Party in the B/S/T. I'm thinking that will suit this nicely for an in between od/fuzz pedal

Lol yeah get with the programme.

I think it's not so much the TAFM in particular as any fuzz that really brings the low end in a big way. But yeah TAFM is sweeeet.

I'd love to try a Meathead on bass vi because I love them on bass AND guitar but I don't have one around at the moment. :(

After about a month away I finally got my baby back!

Had the headstock painted and a new decal put on, and upgraded to a set of Curtis Novak pups! I had already upgraded the trem, bridge, and pickguard beforehand. The pickups kick ass - the bridge and middle are WAY better (I found the bridge pup unusable before). Expensive overall but worth it - I always feel like the VI was made for me when I pick it up

What's better about the bridge pickup?

I don't like it clean. But through my dirt, its like the grindiest tone ever.

Doubleohno, Fantastic! Though a bit pricey, the curtis novak pups enhance the instrument so much. I haven't heard those, as I have the '61 VI pups, but I'm sure they sound great

Some serious knob action on that JM! Sweet looking sound sticks! :omg:

I slapped the Staytrem trem on my VI and I think I might start using trem now ('hardtail on everything'-dude). It bends so much more and with way more fluidity than the stock one. Really smooth stuff!

Now, for that new nut... :excellent:

Question: How high is your action? I've got a good 4mm on the 12th fret. I think it might buzz when strumming hard if I lower it any further. :idk:

I'm adding my Broke Dick Peanut Gallery and making this baby active. I still need a hole for the battery. The controls are gain, volume and tone.

I've got the staytrem vi bridge and the AVRI term installed. I tried the buzz stop early on and it did t really do much of anything.

Can someone measure the pickup cover width for me? Are they standard Jag width?
