Simple is as simple does. Sound advice, albeit poetic.

Sometimes my buddy gives me flak for not using enough distortion. I bet about half of the sounds that come out of my amp are basically Hex era Earth sounds.

I try to make all of my clean toanz sound like Hex era Earth.

Harmonic Percolator into a Nine of Swords Burial At Sea. Best of both worlds. The HP really tightens up hard for sharp palm mutes, and the Burial at Sea is a nasty, big-bottom fuzz. The result of stacking them is a tonal punt in the bollocks.

I bring the Doom with A Hail Satan Muff. I use the Extra Gain Stage on it. I also frequently love to use my Single Knob Meathead Clone.

I have been trying to use fuzz for pretty much the entire time I've been playing in bands, but I never seem to get along with them live. In the studio they're amazing. Right now I'm using the Ampeg v2 cranked up because the natural amp overdrive sounds very fuzz like on its own and I slam it with an MXR CAE boost I just picked up from a friend to intensify it. Weird fuzzy overdrive which works perfect.

I think that's kinda the thing: It really doesn't matter what you use as long as you're happy with what you're hearing.

It's not like you can't palm mute with fuzz, just depends on the guitar/pedal/amp combo you got going, your technique, and how fast you need to play. My Twinbender, V7 Muff, and LSTR can all bring some freakin' thunderous chug on their own, blended with each other, or blended with my OD or amp gain. I wouldn't use them for palm muted thrash, but heavy hard rock, doom, death and roll, fuck yeah.

The other night I had the Gain for my Tremoverb's modern high gain channel set down at 9:00 for a super present/bright lower gain crunch with the treble & mids dimed, the bass @ 11:30, presence @ 11:00, master up around 1:30-2:00, That got slammed by my '71 LP's P90's into my LSTR and Twinbender both set for fuzzy boosts. Good fucking god it was awesome, the chug was there and then some.

To me, I think it just matters how it sounds to you. If you like your tone then that is really all that matters.

I dig Fuzz but lately I've been stacking a couple Tubescreamers and I'm pretty darn happy with it.
