Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I'm looking for a new guitar mic. I've got an MD421 and I lost my SM57 hopefully I'll find it but I'd rather find something better and a Rode NT 1A and another Rode condenser. I'll eventually add a ribbon mic but I'd like to stay under $300 and basically find a replacement for the 57 that's warmer and smoother. Worst case scenario I'll get another 421 but I'd like something different for variety.
That 408 is awesome and I'd love one. I wish someone would remake it but not Monolith.

I could try to have the guy that John is having build his hieroglyphic cab build one, but he seems to be dragging his feet, too. Plus there's the whole money thing...mostly that I don't have any haha

Sweet SG elk.
Yup...give me all the gear while we're at it.
I was gonna say, that Orange cab just looks like someone painted an ACC 408. They're sweet amps, but only with the right drivers. I'm ambivalent about them, they can sound really good, but total overkill for a tone you can get with a lot of newer stuff now for half the weight and more volume. They're still sweet in their own right though, overkill isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I almost bought one, right before the shit hit the fan. Dodged a bullet there.
I'm flush with gear selloff cash right now...but I don't need anymore bass cabs at all. I just sold one and I still have my 810 and two Duallies left (besides my little baby 110 for home). I'm going to make some cabs soon too.

No I've got it on hold for George (dethbydoom on TB). He doesn't have the funds until the 9th, I told him I'd give him right of first refusal if anyone local made me an offer on the CL ad.

Yeah, it's beautiful, it's finished? (minus final touches) and.....
It's been a year. 3 months now since I last saw it in near complete condition.
What
the
fuck...
I can't recomend the dude to anyone at this point. Possible flakery going on. I'm sure I'll get it eventually but the current lack of communication and total pause in finishing it I don't understand.

Have you tried contacting him lately? The cab is paid for, right? Let's go get it...

Yea my buddy Josh does vocals for them. I used to talk with him all the time on a different message board and booked a show that sucked for his old band Quell. Great band.

So I was close when I posted that Purple....which is essentially the same thing, but purple.
We were talking about the science behind those the other night, but I don't think we got down to the nitty gritty of what the two facing speakers actually do.
My guess is that, depending on the phase of the wiring you go for, they act together to push those stupid low frequencies from one speaker face into the other and then blast that out the port under a large amount of pressure, projecting the sound and cutting through cleaner.
Which would have been ideal back in the days before everything got mic'd and DI'd etc.
I should google shit before I post.
Also rad cab. Happy for youse guys

WWPD?

An alternative to the 57 is the sennheiser 609. It is a nice little mic that is like the 57 but with a slightly different character. I also have a beta 57 which I like better then a 57 and maybe what you are looking for if you just want a better 57 but on the cheaper side of things. The biggest problem I have found is that all the mic companies want to make their version of a 57 so when you are looking at mics in that category they pretty much sound similar.
I know it is outside your price range but check out the royer 121 or the slightly cheaper 101. They are ribbon mics but are built to be strong and put up right next to a guitar speaker. They are supposed to combine really well with a 57 too. AEA has some cool ribbon mics too. The N22 is marketed towards singer songwriters but I think it might be a cool mic to check out.

Probably a better route to go. I went with Murrow because of the the cool carvings on the sides and his willingness to humour an insane persons wacky idea.
Tony, it's 90% paid for so basically yes.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
managed to get in touch with cab dude. Will be getting it saturday regardless of completed state. It needs little things like the wheels and handle put on, gliders on the back. fronts of the 18 fh part sealed off. I can do all that.
