Since I started going to shows again, I've always worn plugs. I'd like to still have some hearing left when I turn fifty.

I always wear plugs now. I'm 26 and have tinnitus with moderate frequency and certain sounds trigger it. Even if that didn't happen, the feeling of everything sounding muffled after shows and going to sleep with ringing anyway makes me crazy.

I use these alpines: http://www.amazon.com/Alpine-Hearing-Pr ... =ear+plugs

Better then the little foams but still not super expensive. Have been toying with getting the molded ear ones.

I've used something very similar to those alpines and they were fucking terrible.

the foams I use are normally meant for construction and they are perfect for high volume amps. I like to be able to stick my head in my speakers at full vol to make sure I don't hear anything that doesn't need to be there and still have my hearing with no ringing thereafter.

and highly recommend everyone use some form of ear protection. Anyone who says they can't hear the music they are playing needs to get louder amps, not remove the ear protection.

I literally use them everyday for just about everything. So my ears are so sensitive to sound I can't stand using my impact drill without having them in. Hell I hear people better with them in cause it cuts out all the other noise around.

Good plugs make all the difference. I spent a little money on mine, cause I decided that my hearing was worth the $150 or so.

I got these with both the 15 and 25 db reduction filters. https://www.westone.com/defendear/index ... Itemid=115 I can stand next to someone at a show and hear a whisper, and yet stand in front of speakers and not leave with my head pounding and ears ringing.

I will say though that one time I saw a band and the singer's voice was centered -exactly- at the frequency that got cut by my earbuds.

Who thinks they can guess the band?

Ex Gods Fucking Slayed.

Mike had his Dunwich and Soldano and it ripped. Just a heavy HEAVY set. When these guys drop an album it will be on the DR required list. You heard it here first.

Scary moment during the set. An attractive young lady with lots of tattoos collapsed and had a seizure. She was ok afterwards, at the risk of sounding callous. fucking METAL.

I'm gong to check out those ear plugs. any other recomendations would be welcome as well as reviews. I cannot stand foam ones as they cut some freqs more than others.

One of the local bar/venues has a semi-regular battle of the cover bands manned by rotating scene regulars (think Tool vs. Rush, Mumford & Sons vs. decemberists, Thriller vs. Purple Rain, etc.)

The last one was Limp Bizkit vs. Creed. I think everyone lost.
