I support it, it's loud as hell. Make it sound like ya want it to.

This is by far and away the most ridiculous idea I've seen you propose here to date.

Which means I'm all for it.

When you say '"gut", you mean like cap job and servicing, right? Take out all the unreliables?

I think you need to talk to Nick, man.
If you want someone to tell you something sensible, I'm sure he's the man.
To be honest though, I think if it was you advising anyone else in this situation you'd be telling them to go for as much bang for as little buck as possible.
You already have the AD140, you have said that you do enjoy it very much.....tearing it up to make a new beast at the cost of extra $$s, when you've already paid for it....??
Unless what you really want me to say is, "whiskers, sell the AD140 and get Nick to build you a 300w Matamp-style tube demon."

Because you don't need to ask if justification is what you want.

I missed a few pages and I'm lazy. Whats wrong with the ad140?

Also, if it is a pcb it would probably be more effort than it is worth to just try and replace the preamp. It might be ok if it is a separate preamp pcb but still eh… If you are replacing all the insides it would be like building a new amp with a little bit of savings because you already have some parts like the transformers which are generally the most expensive parts.

lol none of my amps are PTP

They are turret.

PTP is like matchless and original sunns

PTP amps dont use any boards they are all fly by connections from different points like sockets, pots, and small strips.

I am so stoked for the upcoming Electric Wizard, I enjoyed black masses well enough, but it was still a bit of a let down. The direction for this one sounds promising though

PTP amps dont use any boards they are all fly by connections from different points like sockets, pots, and small strips.

Matamp taught me this years when I visited the factory. The lead designer was showing me the workshop and stuff, and I asked about the wiring. He demonstrated some of it, and I said is that PTP. He quite firmly replied no and explained how frustrating it is to see 'bootweek' builders claming PTP when it's either turret board, eyelet board or something else. He showed me an example of a 'true' point-to-point' amp and then explained the differences.

There are only a few major builders using strict PTP wiring. One of the reasons why Matchless and Carr are so expensive is because they employ that technique a lot. I think Carr also operate using other techniques, but Matchless almost entirely use it. I think Bad Cat used to build with PTP wiring as well, I can't remember. I don't think they do any more, if they did. Either way, I don't think it makes much of a difference.
