in Band news, i jammed last night with a couple of guys i met on a guitar forum in London...both guitarist, but one of them wanted to play drums...it was so freaking awesome. In one 3 hour session we did more than i did in 2 months with the old band. Now we just need to find a good bass player, but so far so good...and initial band name...

I really like the sound of it...but... :idk: :poke:

Excuse me Ma'am I'm looking for two books; "How to live your life with an unusually large phallus." and "How to let a woman know your coming on to them without straight up saying it." Would you happen to know where I could find those? I'm guessing they'd be kept in a dark closet in the backroom.

Fuckin congrats dude!!!!! I myself would opt for 6550's.... but I like lots of low end in my power tubes. ;)

EL34B's are newer tubes but they are readily available, their like the weber 65 or WGS et65 to a V30. Alight change to fix the one thing everyone has an issue with on the standard model, a lil harshness.

Well, after playing around with it I'm liking the el34s in it more than I did in my Marshall and other amps I've had that had them in it. These have a shitload of low end and the highs are kinda nice too. I'm still gonna look at other options when I go to retube but if I end up sticking with stock el34 I won't mind. I read that Matamps have the tubes too close together to everything and that is why they fail so much. Wouldn't 6550 make that a little more prone to happen since they are bigger?

Another thing, the speaker outputs on the back are one each 4, 8, and 16 ohm. My Emperors (16ohm) can be daisy chained off of each other so would that make running from the 16 ohm on the amp into one cab and then out of that cab into the other one still be at 16 ohm? Or would it be 8? I never daisy chain them because my Soldano has two speaker jacks and a selectable ohm switch.

whiskey_face wrote:also conky you could try a kt-77 as a drop in and bias replacement for el-34s?

I love 34s mids but miss the bass of 6550s or 88s apparently those are suppose to be a nice mix. :gizz:

I'll keep that in mind. Been contemplating running a set of KT66 in my Soldano.

My wife is a librarian (and a fucking hot one at that). She would love this idea and buy your album instantly.

Daisy chaining cabs via parallel outputs halves the impedance. So 2 16ohm cabs daisy chained would make an 8 ohm load.

Got it. :thumb: With my Soldano I always hooked each one to the amp and put the selector to 8 ohms. Wasn't sure if that would be basically the same thing or not.

It's the exact same mentality just different place to plug in your second cab.

czech seems hard to really learn much about unless your super dedicated. i don't speak more than a couple of words. you just kind of get where you recognize languages you've been around a bunch even if you don't know them. i've been to czech republic probably 6 or 8 times at least from touring europe. the band i used to work for most doing guitar and stage tech work always rented their vehicle and gear from a spot in prague so we always had a few days at the beginning and the end of tour to hang out there. it was pretty awesome. i once tried to buy coke from some dude on the street there and it turned out to be fake and that was real disappointing, but i probably didn't need any coke anyway. another time i got lost on the train trying to go see the bone church and that was real weird i saw some really crazy eastern czech post soviet towns and it was cool. last time i was there i got attacked by a parrot while i was drunk at one in the afternoon and it really fucked my finger up. long story, but you've always got to be careful when you're drunk in the middle of the day, no matter where you are.

EDIT TO ADD: you'll be fine visiting prague without knowing czech. pretty english friendly there. just don't expect that in the rest of czech. my advice would be to not buy drugs on the street; always check with the bartenders about what to pay for cab fare, cause the cabbies will rip you the fuck off for real; be very wary of any tropical birds that you see, and do not under any circumstances fail to pay your subway fare, even if the machine that takes your fare is broken. walk around a bunch. go see a show a 007, the best underground venue in prague; and enjoy the food, have a cheeseburger, which in czech is a burger made of cheese, not one with cheese on it; and enjoy the company of czech and slovakian women if you can, or at least the sight of them.

Rad stories and such good advice.

After being obsessed with the flanging in the Uncle Acid albums, I impulse bought'd an old MIJ Arion. I had one a few years ago and sold it for no real reason. This one is just as thick and syrupy as I remember. Plus it's pretty much impossible to get the Van Halen jet swooshys, which is nice. And you can get some really clangy fixed filter tones by turning the rate all the way off. The only problem is it causes a huge volume boost when any dirt is on in front of it. Need to try it pre dirt and see if the same thing happens. Glad to have some flange back.
