Not exactly. The Klon uses 4 op amp stages, though the first is a unity gain buffer.Blackened Soul wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 12:30 pm Isn’t the Klon like a modded Distortion + or a rat anyway?
Like those others, there is an op amp followed by clipping diodes, but there are differences in the make up gain and tone control sections following it.
It's really not so much about the circuit, anyway, as there is nothing anyone has ever done with a guitar pedal circuit using basic op amps and transistors that falls under any kind of trademark or IP protection, though one can copyright the PCB layout, but that isn't hard to get around by any manufacturer designing their own PCB from scratch.
Whatever one thinks of Behringer, they are really only crossing the line with trade dress and names.

i’m sure MusicTribe’s lawyers, who are no doubt expert and legion, have already been amassing examples of pedals that infringed on original packaging to show that this really isn’t that far beyond standard industry practice.Whatever one thinks of Behringer, they are really only crossing the line with trade dress and names.
i’m not a fan of Behringer, but i have no compunction about using their products. yeah, some are awful, though if you buy stomp boxes in plastic enclosures the fault lies with you. but some of their synths are the only way i’ll
ever get to use a lot of classic sounds. so i’m not prepared to write them off.
i also am not impressed with Finnegan, who from what i’ve heard is not pleasant to deal with. if i was going to pick a complainant i’d prefer someone less full of themselves. and i find his “i only sell them on eBay to the highest bidder” schtick exploitative in the extreme. not a sympathetic client.
and i have to say that’s a really shitty brief. badly written as a hagiography of Finnegan, it barely does the job of asserting claims. not impressed by his lawyers.
