i'm sorry that i have my effects needs largely covered at this point, because i'd love to get an Animals pedal. they all seem to sound good, are cheap, and are utterly adorable.

Some of the limited editions end up fetching high prices too, so you have to hunt them down before they're gone. I just scored a $50 Pisdiyauwot and really don't need more distortion so I will pass this on, it might be the last and best opportunity for this one:

i've been browsing for odd tremolos for the nascent Jazzmaster with Höfner staple pickups project, so i'm seeing all manner of parts. i find it utterly hilarious that rubber-coated "silent tremolo springs" for Floyd-using gain bois are now a thing. that's got to be the most pathetic thing i've ever seen other than them using hair bands at the nut so they don't have to mute. seriously, if there's that many technical problems in playing uber-gain in drop C maybe the universe is trying to tell you something. like "buy a bass." i'd like to find something other than a bog-standard JM tremolo, but since the body will be routed for the JM trem i need something that a: fits the rout and b: covers the whole rout. so surface-mounts are Right Out.

GAS got me !

Well a little - I traded in a few pedals to help catch up on some unplanned expenses but in the process I had my boys at Parrotdice Guitar reset up the SG - wow I am so fucking happy! I had them level and recrown the frets because I played the damn thing so much I wore divots into the lower first position. And as a small present to myself I upgraded to Grover locking tuners - (which rule) and they filled in the screw holes in the back. So dope!

The Jackson will be next - plans are to coat the tremelo springs and add locking tuners, and take the gloss off the neck ( because fuck gloss thats why)

Also a 65.00 EDQ plums fell in my gig bag - itches the OD sound perfectly.

i've never been a huge fan of locking tuners, but i'm beginning to come around. the Fender-branded Ping tuners on the Kondor are terrific, and that's not even a highly reputed brand. it's especially helpful on that guitar because it gets worked on a lot (hopefully that will end soon) so the strings are on and off like a toddler's socks. i'll probably use some sort of them on my upcoming builds simply for convenience's sake, but i don't care enough to retrofit 13 other guitars especially since some of them have cool vintage tuners. there's nothing locking that can replace the tulip tuners on the Höfner Galaxie neck. i have considered modern locking Klusons to replace the ones on my ES-335 because 60s Klusons are not wonderful but i'm nervous about doing anything at all to it because even with the neck repair it's still worth $7000. unbroken 1968 335s now go for $14-15k and up, emphasis on "up." i suppose if i played out and thus changed strings more often it would be adaptive, but strings usually stay on for a couple of years or until they're rusty and dull, at which point i change them when i want to use that guitar and they're too gross to play on. and i've never worn out tuners on an electric guitar with the possible exception of one of the 335 Klusons which is iffy. acoustic guitars, yes, but when i'm into acoustic i use a lot of weird tunings to the tuners get a workout with the heavier strings. my 1974 Epiphone acoustic is now on its third set.

The bbe mind bender is a win, really cool rubbery chorus and vibe, it’s hissy like a boss vb2 but really fun sound! And like a lot of stuff playing by yourself it’s a bit odd but in a band setting it sounds cool, really swirly!

The boss re2 sounds pretty much like a re-20, the wow and flutter control is nice, I had to dial the tone control to about 9oclock for my taste… it gets the timing feel right!

i wonder if you could EQ out some of the noise...i looked at a Bender video and it seemed like the noise was in a different frequency range than the signal which is pretty dark and sparkle-free. if there's no actual content above, say, 4000 Hz maybe you could just lop it off at the knees.

So I forget who it was here that set me on the hunt, but my FM transmitter arrived!

This l'il doohickey is about the size of a flash drive and has a range of maybe ten feet or so. Creates some cool possibilities for lo-fi speaker alternatives and fun-with-spacialization. (And cost me all of six Canadian dollars.)

I’m usually not a fan of the fade finishes but there’s something magic about that hard fade and how it works with the pickguard and hardware. It gets better the more I look at it, too.

(One supposes one could keep pushing with black knobs and black Graph Tech saddles, but maybe that’d be so much that it all falls apart?)
