Re: Let's see your AMP!

Gave my ultimate chorus a new paint job. My tolexing is a bit rusty but I don't plan on selling so it's not a huge deal. Still needs new knobs: I couldn't make the replacements I ordered work but plan b's in the mail. I'd strongly prefer cream over black so I may have to brush up on resin casting.
Still to do, in no particular order:
-glue down the last ~50 sq inches that I couldn't get to before I ran out of contact cement
-matching footswitch
-get a reverb tank
It still has some gremlins to hunt down on the electrical side, but maybe now I'll be motivated to work on it.
And no, Fender never made an ultimate chorus head. Part of the original baffle is still there behind the front plate.

Thanks! I used several coats of modge podge (essentially fancy PVA glue) instead of a real finish for the fabric, so time will tell how well it holds up. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for something that would get heavy wear, but a panel *should* be fine. I think.

Re: Let's see your AMP!

Got a JTM45 reissue. To be honest, I wasn't massively fond of the sound when I first plugged it in. Huge amounts of bass (bass knob was unusable at anything past 0), with lots of sag, yet high end was quite harsh. I knew there must be some good sounds in here so I thought I'd put a whole new set of tubes in. Replaced the 5881's with Gold Lion KT66's, and the stock ECC83 with TADs. Also swapped out the rectifier for a solid-state one. Big difference. Sounded warmer, but with a more usable range of bass, with less sag so handles the stuff I play a bit clearer. High end was tamed a bit and sounds nice rather than ice-picky, and overall it's louder with slightly more headroom.
Using the normal channel with mids cranked to cover more low end and mids, through a 1x15, while the little Bluguitar Amp1 on top runs through a 2x12 with WGS speakers - doing most of the high end. If you haven't seen one of these before, give them a go. Huge range of sounds in them and craaazy loud.

That is a very cool setup.
Maybe a dumb question, but does the marshall have the same bass heavy sound through the 2x12 as the 1x15?

Re: Let's see your AMP!
To a degree - more so through the 1x15 as it's also an open back as well, but I've played it through a couple 2x12's and a 4x12 so far and it's the same. This circuit is just very bass heavy - I think most people have it on 0. Original circuit was Marshall copying a Bassman.hbombgraphics wrote:That is a very cool setup.

OK, awesome, kinda what I figured.
I love the 1x15/2x12 setup.
Need to try a Blu Amp at some point.
