I think that's because it's uh, not a uke?dubkitty wrote:whoa. that's the first uke-related instrument i've ever seen that didn't make me want to go full Bluto.

IT'S HERE
so far i like it. the iron-stick fingerboard was startlingly pale when it arrived. a couple of applications of Magic Fretboard Jizz brought it to the splotchy light rosewood color shown in the photo. i'll be working it in for a couple of days. buffing it in will also help the texture, which is kind of grainy compared to rosewood with an odd dusty feel and more texture in general. which means more noise artifacts, but that's a plus for this guitar. i'll be able to drive the string just by doing wobbly little string-bends, which will be great for feedback. this is the first time i've ever played on pau ferro, and note for the record that the paler the streaks are, the looser the grain feels and the rougher the texture.
the body finish is a gorgeous translucent dark red that just shows the grain, almost as dark as Gibson cherry but with a slight magenta hue (compare to the SG visible on the right). satin-finish neck with a nice comfortable broad C shape. 6 pounds, 8 ounces. the pickups are pretty close to the originals though a bit lower in output (~7.2kΩ vs. ~7.8kΩ). the phase switch for the middle position is as Nile Rodgers as fuck. i need to dial them in, but the combination of pickups, their placement at an unusual angle to the strings (usually Fender neck pickups sit at a 90° angle to the strings except on Mustangs and 90s Duo Sonics, and the bridge pickup angle/placement is unique), and the string-through-body modern hardtail Strat bridge with its massive steel saddles make it snappy as hell. which is exactly what i wanted. i got it from Sweetwater because i could pick from the 4 they had in stock...i can be kind of prissy about matching grain, excessive contrast between parts of a 2- or 3-piece body, and so on. once i get it set up and played in it's going to kill. it's a perfect version of what it is. everything works, everything makes sense, the controls are simple, and contrary to reviews online the phase switch is totally boss. it seems totally bulletproof, and to really, really want to go all Andy Gill on your ass. Joe Bob says "check it out."

Got some gold foil humbuckers by current Harmony(~Heritage) in.
Didn’t know they would be four-conductor. Which means I’ve just got to: I was already thinking I should do a 4-way Tele switch with them to get the added series option, but the Seymour Duncan Tripleshot switching rings will also have to be a part for series/parallel switching and individual coil selection. That should be good for 40 sounds if I’ve got the math right. Should I change in a pull-pot for phase switching, too?

Had a good F5 clicking day. Copped a Tides by Holy Island Audio. It's like an RM-1N/verb going into dirt box.

I’ve got a Midfi Electronics Scrape Flutter on the way.
I think I’m going to pick up a Jptr FX Jive and an EHX Superego (2nd one) soon too. Maybe a Zoom MS50G to put permanently in the FX loop.
I’ve got the GAS.

I've been watching HIA page for a good while and I'm really curious about the Tides, looking forward to hear some first hand impressions.UglyCasanova wrote:Had a good F5 clicking day. Copped a Tides by Holy Island Audio. It's like an RM-1N/verb going into dirt box.

I hung up my guitar a couple years ago because I wanted to focus on piano. But then I had a moderately traumatic life event occur, after which I found myself psychologically unable to continue practicing. Only instrument I've played since then is a secondhand cheapo drum kit that I bought for my son this summer that he's barely touched, and to be honest, I've barely touched as well (I picked up some new drum heads and a new hi-hat for him for Christmas, hoping to motivate him). Still hoping to return to piano some day.
Anyway, when I stopped playing guitar, I sold all my pedals save for a Blackout Twosome and an MXR Classic 108, which have been sitting in a rubbermaid container since then. But the other day, I decided to bust them out and dialed in some cool tones and rocked out for a while.
Then all of a sudden, almost before I even knew it, I had a Caroline Hawaiian Pizza and a Smallsound/Bigsound Buzzz on order! Jesus Christ man, the fucking gas.

This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

Smallsound/Bigsound Fuck (kind of... it's a special run Heck Overdrive in a sweet orange finish)
From demos, it gets close to the dirt of the RM-1N with more control
