Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
I really need to find a “cheap-ish humbuckers that don’t sound like a Gibson and aren’t high-output metal pickups” list. If anyone had recommendations, let me know. (I know I’m not going to find handmade pickups cheap, but I’m really in love with the JM-sized Curtis Novak WRHB in my Jazzmaster’s bridge position.)

GFS do a wrhb-inspired pickup in trad/gibson size:

Can't speak to how close it sounds to a real wrhb or a more vintage-correct copy, but they're $30 so why not.

Also, if you're not opposed to routing out whatever guitar you have, the new fender WRHBs have the correct CuNiFe poles and should be basically identical to the old ones. Not sure if they're available aftermarket yet, but they should be coming.
You could also look into humbucker-sized filtertrons.

Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
thanks for the insight, i loathe when guitars can't stay in tune, plus i usually play with 11-48s or 11-52s beacuse i have a heavy right hand. I would definitely grab one to mod it like i haven't done to any other guitar before, we'll see.backwardsvoyager wrote:^ I'm not sure about the other models, but the Super Sonic would not stay in tune at all out of the box. The hardware is pretty bad and it ships with 9-42s, so you play for a few mins and the whole thing goes like a semitone out of tune![]()
I locked down the trem, lubed the nut, changed the string trees and spent a while setting it up with heavier strings and now it's totally fine.
I'm really happy though, just because the neck is on point. Fretwork is flawless, glossy but not in a gross way, super fast. I'm gonna mod it beyond recognition over the next few months
nice and simple! i'd rather have one with just neck pickup, or something in the middle position, but that's because i'm weird.Blackened Soul wrote:Ok, so I put this together in December but a lot of life shit happened and I just didn't feel like taking a picture until now.

Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
As mentioned earlier this week in the GAS thread, I got a Legator Ghost Overdrive 6 headless guitar on reverb used. It came today. It’s a fun, fast metal guitar. I dig it and its burl. Here’s a photo from the seller since I can’t be bothered to take new pictures:

(Upside down is clearly the best way to store a headless guitar, as the dents on this guitar attest. Hah.)

Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
I like the color
you know if you don't want the "metal" pickups tv jones makes a blade tron thing.. megatron? I can't remember the name..
most real lif-ers seem to like this though.. bridge pickups work with the way I play.. I hardly ever use the neck pickups on moth other guitars...

Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
I got an 8 string ghost from the very first run they did (I was in an 8 string phase then I don't know what I was thinking either) and the quality is god awful, cracks in the wood, horrible alignment of the bridge and the neck has the texture of a matchstick. :/ I keep it for the novelty I guess. Your's looks a lot better.mathias wrote:As mentioned earlier this week in the GAS thread, I got a Legator Ghost Overdrive 6 headless guitar on reverb used. It came today. Edit: someone with more talent than me will be reviewing it for youtube etc. He put up a quick vid of playing it the day he got it: https://www.instagram.com/p/CC9gTCNn5Bw ... hk51rzl5wo

Re: Let's see your GUITAR!

Just got this back from being set up properly and it's very fun to play. 1963 JM refinished in charcoal frost metallic (heretical I guess because that colour wasn't offered in 63 oh dear), I bought it for cheap dollars with a terrible white poly refin and a broken headstock about four years ago and then went through a nightmare process of getting it fixed and refinished. Mostly original parts; swapped the bridge and trem arm for staytrem and other than the refin I think the rest is all there.
