Currently listening to Randy Holden Population II. I fucking love it. LOVE it. Like, I've been so into this type of music the last year. Does anyone else dig stuff like this?

HAH! Basically. Or like 60-70's psych rock. I don't know why, but I just dig on it so much. I used to when I was younger too, so I've kind of come full circle.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Yeah, I always seem to find myself coming back to that stuff, and there’s always new random albums to discover since there were so many garage bands that cut an album back then. I think that the 60’s and 70’s were a great time for experimenting with music and technology, particularly with what the guitar could do. But I end up listening all over the place.
I watched Echo in the Canyon documentary (doesn’t get 3 thumbs up from me) about two weeks ago, and more recently, The Wrecking Crew documentary (this does get 3 thumbs up from me.)
So I went back and listened to a lot of 50’s and 60’s pop. Really started listening for those random Tommy Todesco Latin guitar licks and other things — those Carol Kaye basslines are everywhere! Listened to albums that Phil Spector produced and thought about the “wall of sound” style he was making in an era of echo chambers, before reverb pedals or DSP plugins. I haven’t yet made it to Pet Sounds or Sgt Pepper’s again to listen and think about how they got those effects on tape.
Also been finding dark instrumental jazz, stuff that’s slow and plodding and sounds like it is just waiting for a woman lounge singer to start.
I guess I listen all over the place.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I LOVE jazz like that, absolutely love it. DJ Shadow used some jazz elements like that in Endtroducing and then Cinematic Orchestra uses a jazz female singer in some songs (Fontella Bass for instance) and it just melts me dude. LOVE IT.
Riding Easy Records got me back into 60's-70's psych rock because it is just want you stated above. Bands who made maybe a pressing, maybe 10, maybe they only had it on tape. I love the depth of which they went for those records. Scouring for artist and then paying them rights on music they probably never really made anything from. Plus, I get to hear soooo many people that I never knew existed (most cases they do not anymore). I have 10 albums like this now and I've been buying more. LOL! I can't get over it.
I listen all over the place too though. I'll listen to 80's pop rock weird crap that I remember as a kid all the time too. LOL. Or I'll start singing some random song from the 50's or 60's because my dad always listened to the "oldies" stations when I was growing up.
I recently found this pop artist (I HATE POP but like this), and to me it's fun and energizing. It's by TOPS and called I Feel Alive. It reminds me of the 80's and also for some reason Stranger Things. I think it's just the vibe of that show. Anyway, it makes me smile.

Now I want a microtonal guitar and of course Eastwood makes one:

I've been there too when I discovered that album, then I realized the little to none use I'd have of that guitar after the initial GAS.

Today I'm on this:

Just get really good at bends and you don't need a microtonal guitar

Oh I absolutely don't need a microtonal guitar and I would probably rarely use it, but they looks pretty fun to mess around on.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Absolutely. I watched a review video for this Eastwood the other day and until I heard they are not actually that cheap I was interested. I'd buy one if it was cheapMrNovember wrote:Oh I absolutely don't need a microtonal guitar and I would probably rarely use it, but they looks pretty fun to mess around on.
