I guess that depends on the person but, generally speaking, working virtually saves a lot of stress. Most jobs will be 'demanding', and may cause 'agitation' but in my mind, those are two very different things than "stress". Stress takes a toll on the body. It's not good for you where as delivering in the wake of a demanding challenge, and keeping composure in the face of agitation is good for you.friendship wrote:What are some not stressful jobs?

How can you tell the difference between agitation and stress? I've been thinking of my job as pretty stressful but I'm not sure how to qualify that.$harkToootth wrote:I guess that depends on the person but, generally speaking, working virtually saves a lot of stress. I think the garbage men in my city get a pension too, which is pretty much unheard of elsewhere.

death rate for garbage men is pretty high, getting buzzed by cars seems stressful to me.
I think a job is stressful when it impacts you outside of work, like when you come home and it's still bugging you, or when you have work nightmares.

Stress is pretty easy to identify vs. general discomfort and annoyance with your job. Stress makes you forgetful, makes it hard to concentrate, can lead to headaches/migraines, anxiety, abuse and other fun stuff. Simply not liking your job and colleagues pissing you off isn't really stress. It's easier to get stressed if you're dealing with a lot of stuff besides work.

I have been thinking of making a change myself, probably no industries as much as just finding a place with a less broken corporate culture

If trash disposal is part of the municipality then "Yes" they get a pension. Most US cities have this where as in the suburbs, trash disposal is privatized. These companies 'probably' have matching 401Ks though for their employees and good benefits.
Regarding the difference between 'Stress' and 'Agitation' (I think I actually meant 'Irritation' tbh), 'stress' I associate with a 'deliverable' where as 'irritation' does not have one. Below is one example. Please note I am not a scholar, I am a Soy Boy so I would disregard everything.

make your job work for you.
i've made my job work for me. i wear earplugs, blast my spotify playlist through a pair of near field monitors i commandeered from pro audio, i always run through the bypass of my strobe tuner into a cranked up 15 watt bass amp while i'm setting up and intonating guitars (just to be as annoying as possible), and go get high af on every break i take.

I thought about bringing bourbon in my coffee but that won't probably work out what with driving and such.
Lately I have been hiding, I am in an office right next to the owner and he yells at our QA a ton, and I get roped into the meetings both to translate (english to english just QA to normal person) and to be part of the anger, so when I see the QA walk by my office I go to projects.
Today I have a timecard machine to fix, and am going to review our scrap materials.
I was getting migraines from it where I couldn't see so hiding seems like a good solution.

My bro was an urban garbageman for a couple weeks last year. It's a 'no.' Pay was not good, constant exposure to contaminants (have to wear masks to avoid inhalation). Michigan summers and winters can be pretty extreme, too.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

Re: The spite, hate, rage, apathy and mild irritation thread
So my old job never processed my termination paperwork after I left/graduated (woo academia) so when I had to do my background check for my current job - whose offer is contingent on my background check coming back clean - I was flagged and asked why I didn't say I was still working for my alma mater. I'm in the process of getting it fixed but it still sucks. ESPECIALLY since they pushed back my start date by a week to help clear that mess up.
Nevermind, problem resolved.
