Blackened Soul, love the two tracks you posted. What did you use to get those cello and almost deep cavernous horn sounds? I like it a lot

Thanks! Well... Basically both songs are the same format of a chordal/droning track and the a solo/lead/melody track and are all the instruments recorded direct through an apogee duet and the daw is studio one. Ripples is just a single stock reverb plugin on each track and dim lights is the same but I have the mix bus plugins of reverb, comp,eq,reverb, comp stacked in that order. A big part of what I do is about setting the reverb a certain way more than the actual plugin used, basically you start with maxing the delay time and room size, minimizing pre reverb, then you play with you high and low freq and density controls to get the "mood" or tonez to get close to what you need, then you track your parts to the sound, it's the only way to get the spacing and feel right in what you are playing, then once you have takes you like you readjust everything to taste :snax:

that.... is some really useful and smart strategist. i never really realized, but i did a similar thing with Blood Party. spent a LOT of time crafting efx chanis or reverb/delay presets, then played with the result until i found a riff i liked with it.

LEARNING TIME! WOOT!

thanks for the info Blackened Soul. Are you primarily picking while playing your bass or are you using bows occasionally too? And do you like to play any instruments other than bass?

Most of the time I either play with my fingers or a pick on bass guitar, I think I have two songs where I have used a bow, same with guitar... Bows are great for doing a few interesting sounds on guitar family instruments but for the most part I don't bother because to answer you 2nd question I play double bass and cello (well learning to play cello) which are made to be played with a bow, I also play lap steel and ukulele. Also for this kind of stuff using things wrong or oddly is fun like coins, cut offs of strings, pens.. Also flipping a bow over and bowing with the stick side can give you neat sounds, as well as picks made from different materials when you are playing acoustic instruments, like stone, bone, wood, metal and horn, also slides, glass, metal, ceramic and wood slides all sound a little different.

Niiiiiiiiice. There's nothing like chilling to the darkness.

Edit: re-listening louder, I'm catching more of the subtleties.

Second edit: beautiful, Blackened.
