I talked to Alex in the past week about the gain on the street sweeper, and he said that with the new master volume and the voicing knob it should get pretty crunchy. Not Hellhawk levels of gain but pretty close. I'm very excited!

That was the only downside of selling my Old Decolonizer... losing the handwired aspect.

that's also why i don't miss my mother, the laser etched faceplates didn't look as nice as the screen printed ones.

Hey y'all just cranking 'em out over here :thumb:

I spent the last year and a half figuring out how to streamline production so I could speed things up, and it seems to be paying off. Lots of little changes in how I do things. I prefer being the only one to touch these amps before you do :) PCB's were one aspect in saving time, but that decision was also for consistency, reliability + serviceability (yes, I mean that), ability to mount modern components as they were designed to be (rather than trying to adapt them to a turret board), and for an even lower noise-floor. And it may be just me, but I think they look just as nice on the inside. They are still completely handwired and laid out just like the turret boards. All pots, tube sockets, jacks, and switches are chassis-mounted and attached with flying wires.

As always, happy to answer any questions about the amps in this thread!

I can only imagine how much easier that is for you now!! Im not bummed really with going to PCB, yours look really overbuilt! Plus if sounds good who really cares right??! How much time do you think youve managed to shave off building an amp??

what's this you say? a LOWER noise floor? mind = blown

and i have nothing against pcb amps, just the shitty ones.

Haven't ordered yet. I'm so torn between being responsible and not. It's lame because I actually have the cash ready, but I'm thinking about like putting it aside for my kids or something dumb like that. Idk. I'm real conflicted. I have been lusting over these for 2+ years now, and my lust have never waned, unlike any other gear thing that I've wanted and flipped. Hats how I'm close to justifying it at least...

Worth selling my Science cab locally for 300 bucks to add on to the amount for the mother? Im debating since I spent like 800 bucks for it and its cool, but laying it sideways to make it fit is not as cool has just laying it on top of my emperor 1x15. Being responsible is tough lol

Also I definitely feel ya dude, I have wanted one for the past 2 years and I have the money. I finally started saving serious cash and after reaching the 10,000 threshold in a year, It's hard for me to want to spend any of it. Especially since I probably will never make any money from muzak haha

Maybe someone can answer this so I don't have to slow down builds with Alex at all. On the Mother, if I plug in to the overdrive input, which has the footswitchable gain, does that mean that if I have the gain switched "off" it acts just like the normal channel, then I can stomp on the gain? Like essentially one is the simple version and the other is the same with the option to add overdrive or not?

yes.
Plugging into the OD input adds the overdrive circuitry to the signal path and takes your guitar or bass from the edge-of-breakup all the way to crushing saturation with any varying degree. This input also engages the (foot-switchable) Drive control, which can serve as a subtle or massive gain boost.
normal goes straight to gain, od goes through drive to gain and gain is apparently now footswitchable. cool.

Dope. That's how I read it, but couldn't remember if that was how they were before or if I was just reading it incorrectly, or what.

Hey Peter, just wanted to clarify for you and others that even through the Drive control is now switchable on the MkII, the signal path is not the same as plugging into the Normal Input when its switched off. What I mean is that you are still going through the Overdrive input's circuitry, and switching off the Drive control just 'throttles' the gain down to it's minimum level. Hope that makes sense!
