Hot Rod is super underrated.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

Yeah, I agree. It's awesome.

Maybe getting the Microbrute was bad...

Now I find myself reading about modular (which I know nothing about) and looking at other devices like Make Noise 0, Dreadbox, Pittsburgh Modular...

Gawwwwwd dammit. It's going to pull me in, isn't it?

It's going to pull me in...breathe softly on my neck...and enter me swiftly... :grumpy:

So I'm thinking get a volca kick, an Ehx crash pad and a Korg sq-1 (for the crash pad), along with the garmonbozia I'm waiting on and I'll have a pretty nice set up for weirding out.

Anyone know of anything similar to the crash pad? Want a standalone snare / enveloped noise generator kinda thing I can trigger with gates.

It's fairly simple.
The heart of the rig is a C-L Tetrax (wooden thing front centre) - a 4 voiced synth geared towards expressive playing by pressing on the wooden barres. As you push you hear audio on the left, and when you release it switches to the right. It has banana patch points for push/release CV outputs, Raw oscillator output, FM Input, and glitch in/outs. I run the main stereo out into the Mini KP2 for more touch/gestural fx playing, and now run any or all of the 4 oscillator outputs into the format jumbler above to be run through pedals for drone.
To the right of it is a Meng Qi Voltage Memory, basically each metal touch pad is a scene of CVs that are sent out of the six banana jacks at the top. You can play it like a keyboard or use it as a sequencer with various modes for arpeggiating, pressure sensitivity blah blah
Above that is an arcade manifold, basically it let's you connect two patch points from whatever format (banana / minijack / 1/4" jack) and either use the arcade buttons to connect momentarily, or cut momentarily.
Bottom left is a Lorre Mill double knot, which is now my rhythm machine. Two oscillators with a weird ass sequencer that can be aleatronic. To me it sounds like fantastic old synth library music with minimal effort. Can sync it to/from the keystep and/or the voltage memory. It's banana jack too, cross patching with the tetrax has been fun (double knot envelope outputs to Tetrax FM inputs :thumb:)
I use the keystep to control the volca keys via midi for arpeggiation and sequencing, keeping sync with the double knot/voltage memory.
Everything runs into the mixer at the top, from the mxier into the MS70CDR for reverb/delay/chorus etc, and from there into an FMR Really Nice Compressor. The Happiness and CT5 are there to be used with the format jumbler as and when i want to experiment with feeding something through them.
The happiness CV would fry my other gear at the moment, am going to get one of Baremountain's voltage converters when I can.

The CT5 is going to go. It's not really useful in this set up and either dominates or disappears. Maybe pull the Ditto X4 into it, depending on what sells. Need more reverbs for everything!

So yeah, I want to integrate a volca kick and some sort of simple pingable noise source into this, which is why I was thinking an EHX crash pad running from an SQ1 to ping it via gate and sequence filter cutoffs via cv.
