I just did a quick search and re-read some of the history, am I missing a side to this?
where's D.o.S with his knowledge pasta.. the jist of it is a bunch of members here got dicked around by him until they filed paypal claims (I personally waited 3 months with excuse after excuse. like serious personal shit that may have been true, but I later found out he was reusing these family emergency excuses with other members...like some compulsive liar shit IMO). he deleted all negative criticism in his shark tank and never even addressed the issue... I'm really surprised he still has a spot here. there was a canadian dealer that flipped his shit at cost as soon as they got it, because of the hassle it was to work with him. there's also that one time he completely ripped Science's aesthetic for his amp, etc, etc. no doubt his shit sounds & looks cool, but it also stinks.
I kinda thought the whole Science debacle was a bit overblown.
Granted, it all started when Science wrote a pissed (but short) comment on the IG post that was quickly deleted :whateva:, but then there was this whole shitshow that happened here where everyone wanted to execute him when it later turned out that it was just a personal build for a friend of his or something to that effect.

I would feel very comfortable with the designation "swagger-jacker" regardless of the circuitry. Not even just the Orange font everyone steals for his faux OR preamp, but stuff like this:
http://midnightamplificationdevices.big ... oduct/omen

Esp. when it's clear that, you know, he's been active in the same places as someone like Laowiz (or Science), so the happy accident odds decrease immensely.

insubordination wrote:I'll tell you what I have anti-GAS for: anything from Midnight Amplification Devices. Dude is deleting posts of dissatisfied buyers from his Shark Tank noting that:

- He takes about four months to send pedals with no communication, and makes excuses instead of just taking responsibility
- Pretty much only sends pedals once you have filed a Paypal dispute
- Lies about when he ships pedals

I guess the only good thing is that of the half dozen ILFers I've been in touch with, everyone gets their shit eventually, it's just like pulling teeth to even get a fucking response. So note that I'm not calling this dude a scam artist or ripoff, just stating he is not being transparent. And in the end who gives a shit, they're just pedals, right?

I don't know Nic personally, maybe he's a great guy in real life. But I think it's pretty disrespectful to take money from people then just leave them hanging, make excuses when called out, and offer them hollow gestures like a discount instead of just owning up to being overwhelmed with orders or whatever the case, while listing new pedals and promising a delivery time of two weeks when others have been waiting four months.

Maybe this is bad form and I am usually pretty drama-averse, but deleting posts of dissatisfied buyers is pretty weak.
Damn, I just went and saw my posts got deleted (except for the one where I talked about how good the pedal sounded). I mean shit, I wasn't even being mean in that thread, just said there was confusion / excuses with the shipping, and it took about 4 months to get my Holy Mountain. For shame. There's nothing wrong with telling people they'll probably have to wait 4 - 5 months when you're one guy with a lot of orders for pedals, but fer chrissakes, tell them.
But this has not so much to do with Science Amps, which are rad.
Science Amps wrote:Wow, I left an a comment twice on that IG post, but he keeps deleting it. Why rip off another small builder's style so blatantly? I don't believe any thinking person would do that. I'm sure it's not a copy of any of my circuits, but it's clearly a biting my style. Oh well, I guess imitation is the highest form of flattery? Of course this stuff happens all the time in the amp building world, but it's definitely a first for me!

As for new stuff coming this year, I'm working on a ton of stuff, but focusing on getting amps out the door at the moment. I got really slammed right around the new year. Santa was good to y'all apparently.
waltdogg wrote:So apparently it was a one off for the dude's friend. But still, no one stopped and thought "hey, maybe we shouldn't so blatantly copy Science's aesthetic" not to mention they put a Hiwatt circuit in the chassis, so that screams hey lets build a Science because I can't afford one.

Mainly as a high gain distortion, it works really well with the mini.

Dude.
That shitty chain is beautiful chaos. Sometimes they're the best at it. Appreciate what ya got...I miss my own shitty chain & want to rebuild it. O'Drones' board also glorious...something about a simple straight line of pedals is so appealing :joy:

I must make an offering to this page.

Very pleased to know the fun factor communicates through a simple visual alone.
I strive to have fun while hearing how good my gear can sound when making noise with it. I'd rather bask in its therapeutic escapism than pay some nosy buster big bucks to walk me through memories while asking "how does that make you feel?" :grumpy:
It's easy enough to ask myself those same questions internally, while banging around and hearing my hands (and feet) find the words. Plus I have fun toys to show for it after the session is finished. Above all my setups and guitaring are riff-oriented...and riffs seem to write themselves when pedal pairings are symbiotic and I wander into angsty rabbit holes :snax:

Yeah, TAFM is my main fuzz sound right now, so I need it pre verb for "normal"( ) fuzz tones. I'll probably get a Fuck for that post verb spot at some point tbh.
