Starting to book tour dates. Does anyone here got a hookup in Richmond, VA for shows?

Hit me up dude! If I can't find you a show I can definitely try and point you in the right direction.

Reach out to Skip and BoatRich. Maybe Skully.

There's a dude, Mark, that does most of the booking in Richmond. I think his contact email is on the Strange Matter website

Corey, those Traynors are great. I was looking for those for ages, but could never find one second hand.

SLK, sucks about the Laney getting away...that price would have been a huge bargain!

So we played our first gig on thursday. it was frustrating because we had to turn our volume down a lot...but the organiser (who's a friend) was really apologetic about it which was nice. In the end though, it was good to get out and play our stuff and see what the reaction would be, which was positive overall. We only had a 20min slot, so we played 1 song. given the response, we know we can go on the road a bit more, and play some less volume-restrictive venues, which would be cool.

wifey did a video of our set, actually turned out ok due to the low volume...here it is...

I'm not sure how exactly this happened, but it turns out I was mistaken about what type of speakers have been in my favorite 2x12 cab I've used for home recording for years. I remember opening it up years ago to identify them and that they were Celestion G12-65's, but I opened it up again the other day and discovered they're actually Rola era G12-80's. So that explains why it's been so hard to replicate that tone that I love so much. Although it is helpful to have accurate information now, apparently it's a pretty rare speaker so kind of hard to find a match for it. Scumback makes what is supposed to be a replica of it and it also seems like the Eminence Swamp Thang is probably pretty similar in tone to how the G12-80's are usually described, lots of lows, a slight mid scoop and smoothed out highs. That definitely describes the tone that I like so much out of that cab. My problem with every new speaker I've tried lately is that they all don't have enough in the low end, too much upper mids and seem to have a kind of fizziness on the top end that doesn't play well with my fuzzes.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth shelling out for the Scumback.

You must be tired. I did get that huge bargain. It didn't get away. it's on it's way to my house.

also I dug your show, I watched it all, I would like it more if it had some percussion. drums or something like author and punisher

poop... the crust band you linked in the other thread is fucking great.

oh shit...nice one man...those are great amps. I remember a friend of mine had the 30w combo version and it sounded amazing...im sure the bigger brother will be killer.

thanks for the feedback. I know what you mean about percussion. we're not against it...we just haven't found anyone yet. When we do more shows we may end up finding someone who wants to be involved. But we envisage the drummer would be another layer noise rather than keep time and play beats. I often think that a drummer would add a lot more power to our sound too.

I was going to say... As you guys play out some more you may find that people are really into what you do and want to be a part of it as some sort of percussionist.

Yea I wasn't thinking total time keep but someone to bash home points in it. like that artist I meantioned since it's not a drummer but a hand grind cannon thing that he slides back and forth that's triggered on each side it's only kick and snare. still better than a drum machine cause he can variate it up or continue on parts if he feels like.
This thing.

Anyone have any opinions on the Eminence Swamp Thang vs Cannabis Rex with downtuning and fuzz? Power handling isn't a huge concern, it's for my 15w amp for home that I just bought (in a 1x12). Trying to find something readily available and reasonably affordable that gets in the territory of my Celestion Rola G12-80's. Big low end, smooth highs that don't get fizzy. The stock G12H30 that was in that cab sounded awful (for MY taste) with my fuzzes, no balls and made everything sound fizzy to me.
