I'm not sure if this is really the place for this, or if I should start a general arts and crafts thread (I couldn't find one), but...
I'm trying to re-purpose an old button. I painted over the original plastic seal with white acrylic paint after scraping it up a bit, then adhered this to the face:
Image
It's just white computer paper with india ink from a pigment liner pen for the logo. to seal the edges, I used a mixture of wood glue and white acrylic paint.

Anyway, the whole reason I'm posting is to ask, what do you recommend for sealing this even further + covering the exposed paper? I tested out some "top gel" stuff on another piece of paper with india ink markings. It didn't screw up the ink any, but it turns the white computer paper translucent, which looks really bad, like an oily stain. Is there some other kind of clear nail sealing stuff I can put on the paper without it getting all splotchy? I don't know shit about this stuff, the top gell was just the first thing I found around the house.

Otherwise, would spray clear coat have the same oily staining effect as this gel? I live with someone who's really sensitive to strong odors, and it's awfully cold for spraying anything outside, so I'd prefer to avoid that over something I can use indoors.

What about enamels or glazes (which I have no experience with)? I'm looking to do this on the cheap, since it's only a one-off crafts project.

go get some acrylic clear spray. that will seal it nice and evenly. it's usually in the spray paint and around 3-5 bucks. just make sure you get clear. I recommend gloss. it looks better to me. but you might like flat.

Cool, thanks. I found some spray "enamel" in the garage yesterday, tested it on a piece of the same paper, and it was all yellow and turned the paper translucent just like the top gel stuff I mentioned previously, so that was a bust.

I will look specifically for some acrylic spray some time, then. Glossy for sure.

This is my first piece of original artwork:

Then I etched it on a pedal:

Art is interesting to me. I feel like there's a lot of elitism going on. My stuff is mostly street art/ pop art esque. If my art was done by someone with a name, it would be received better.

that's with all of us. it's all in a matter of where you are the people you run with. I don't think about any of that because that's just a distraction to creation. Why concern yourself with how you perceive your stuff should be placed and appreciated. Just go out and make it and by doing that you can probably achieve that placement you want.

I like it, reminds me of Andy Warhol which makes sense since you said pop/street

I like to draw noodles and other fucked up things like that. I'm particularly fond of ramen and pho as there are some really good spots where I live.

I dig em. those I think would pop with some more contrast, either color or just black in the negative spaces. Either way awesome.

Thanks man, I'm not really a very talented color...er. You're right about the negative space though.

i would say if possible go scan it in and then fill the negative space that way via photoshop, or even paint. it'll just stand out massively and make all that detail come out
